Time Warner Inc. TWX +0.67% is in talks to divest most of its Time Inc. magazine group in a deal with Meredith Corp., MDP -0.13% said people familiar with the situation, potentially ending its long reign as the biggest U.S. magazine publisher.

Under the proposal being discussed, Time Warner would retain its flagship newsweekly Time, along with Sports Illustrated and Fortune. But the rest of its magazines, including People, InStyle and Real Simple, would end up combined with Meredith's titles, which include Better Homes and Gardens and Family Circle, whose readers are mainly women.

The proposal calls for both companies to spin off their magazine businesses into a new company that would be publicly held. The spinoff structure has tax benefits for New York-based Time Warner, compared with an outright sale.

Time is poorly written and predictably liberal. You really have to be a bit simple to read it and even dumber to advertise in it.

I remember as a kid looking forward to getting this week’s Time. I read it from cover to cover.

Now I root for it’s demise.

I only saw it here and there as a kid, but it usually looked professional... I wasn’t a good judge of the content back then

Years ago, Time was the liberal mag, and Newsweek was middle of the road. Then Newsweek went far left, and for a while, Time was the less leftist one. Then Time raced to the left. Now Newsweek is dead and Time is dying. Time let left-wing plagarist anti-American Fareed Zakaria come back and lost my subscription forever.

While Titanic is sinking, the stewards are straightening the deck chairs.

As much as I love my car magazines, every time they send me another early renewal offer (I'm already paid into 2015 or 2016), I wonder how much time the dinosaurs have left.
