The husband and wife who say they surprised Christopher Dorner in their home, hours before he was killed in a dramatic standoff, described their terror as he bound their hands and feet. Jim and Karen Reynolds say they came to the home just before noon on Tuesday to find the fugitive had been staying in an upstairs room.
Mrs Reynolds said that Dorner seemed 'calm and methodical' when he approached them, but her first instinct when she saw him was to run away - and Dorner chased after her.
She tried to run up the stairs but was quickly caught by Dorner, who dragged her away.
Mr Reynolds said that after first trying to keep them calm, Dorner tied up their hands and feet with zip ties before stuffing washcloths in their mouths.
He then covered their faces with pillowcases and wrapped electrical cords around their heads.
'I really thought it could be the end,' she told reporters on Wednesday night.
The Reynolds said that despite early reports, it was them - and not their housekeepers - who had encountered Dorner in the home.
They said that he tried to keep them calm and told them repeatedly that he was not going to kill them. Mr Reynolds, who has been married to Karen for 36 years, added: 'He said he just wanted to clear his name.'
Mrs Reynolds added: 'He said he needed transportation out of big bear. He continued to say to us quite frequently he would not kill us and just asked us to do what he asked.
'He knelt down beside me and said "you're going to be quiet, right?"'

Nah, that wasn’t intentionally set... Imagine what the owner is thinking and I wonder what his insurance company will say or sue?
This whole thing stinks to high heaven.
In before the ‘Pooooor Dorner” posts.
‘He said he just wanted to clear his name.’
You don’t do that by killing people stupid.
And especially NOT by killing someones daughter and then taunting him about it.
Why is it that the only reliable news U.S. stories comes from the UK?
According to the LAPD, Christopher Dorner was trying to give up cigarettes. They added that even though he died on Tuesday, he didn’t stop smoking until Wednesday.
(too soon?)
“Police departments, local governments, business leaders and police unions pool their money to offer a $1million reward two days before Dorner’s capture.
When asked about the reward, the Reynolds said that it was no longer being offered because Dorner was killed before he cold be arrested and convicted.”
That makes it easy for all of us next time when we ponder the dilemma of informing the police of a sighting, knowing that there will be a lot of official questions and media intrusion, vs just shutting up, getting on with our business elsewhere, and letting them continue to deal with it.
It’s twice repeated in the article that he “tried to keep them calm”-——no doubt an opening for the left to gush what a caring, kind man their hero is.
Didn’t this author know to capitalize “Big Bear?”
Be nice. Yesterday was Ash Wednesday after all. He took getting ashes on his forehead a little too seriously.
Good article here on what led to his firing:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2988388/posts
I wrote about it when they first put it out.
I sure do not know Policeprocedures, but what the hell were they shooting at? I watched the video and shot were ringing out all over. My Daddy taugh t me not to shoot until I knw what I was shooting at, these people are obviously just firing at the cabin, What for?
If I had been a Police Officer there I would have been more frightened of friendly fire than Dorner.
The Daily Mail almost always amazes me on these big stories, and always in the same way: there is so much information, in this case virtually every useful detail of the entire episode, yet they never give it a final content check before putting it to bed.
Here they have accounts of both the original incorrect description of the tied-up hostages as “two maids” and the later correct description, with picture and names (not noted as a correction) that it was a husband and wife, who own the place.
“Good article here on what led to his **firing**:”
DOH!
‘He said he just wanted to clear his name.’
Well, murdering 4 people is probably the wrong way to go about it.
British papers are not obligated to wait for the “spin” from Democrat officials. California is a Democrat state. They need to set the agenda before the media will be allowed to run stories.
There are too many opportunities for the facts to divert the attention of the sheeple away from the agenda. The true agenda is “guns are bad” and “the LAPD needs more diversity”.
One thing that this story confirms is that Dorner was a better, cooler shot than anybody he met up with. That is a sad fact.
Will be interesting to see how the insurance company (assuming the cabin was insured) handles this. I wonder if theyll not pay out categorizing this as an ‘act or war/terrorism’ or similar.
Just saying, I don't think the brush sweeps quite as broad as your remark says.
“...high-power .308-caliber M-14 battle rifle...”
Brits do seem to have a peculiar fascination with US weapons.
You are exactly right. Now, would you just stop with the acid comments. I am deeply weary of those who keep pontificating about how to get on with your life after someone has done very unjust things to you. I am getting sick and tired of your poor choice of words in calling people "stupid". It would be best if everyone let this thing end and quit going after each other.
I'm going to tell you the effect your comments are having on me and probably a lot of others. EVERY time you come out and make some acid comment about that was not the way to do things (which we all know) and call someone "stupid", you just stir up more anger about the injustices that have not been resolved. Give it a rest.
On a positive note, apparently Dorner DID make an attempt to not overtly harm people not directly connected to those he believed had been instrumental causing some of his distress or law enforcement chasing him. He did show restraint in that area. Loughner didn't show any restraint at all and just killed everyone in front of him he could. So did Hassan. Something is different about this case, but crickets will be chirping before we ever see any real investigative reporting as to what actually set this man off.
This guy is really popular.
The Food Channel just called asked if he would make a guest appearance as the secret ingredient on Iron Chef.
Pitmaster has set up a cook-off between Team Reno and Team LAPD.
During the standoff, the media asked a spokesperson if the cabin was completely surrounded, so he could not escape.
She did not know...
...a circular firing squad comes to mind.
Wow, Dorner’s a real hero huh?
The sheriff’s office will probably handle the cabin like the LAPD handled the old lady’s pickup truck that they shot up.
We are not to worry, because some anonymous donor paid will pay to replace the truck...and the sheeple are supposed to believe that public funds will not be used.
Some ‘donor’ will probably replace the cabin.
Funny. You have heard nothing out of the thug in the White House about this guy. If Obama had a son, he would be like this poor guy. Trying to clear his name because whitey hated him. Nothing. So quiet at 1600 Penn Ave. No talk of gun control for crazy ex-cops who are out of their minds because they “took” away his job.
Absolutely not. When one makes ugly comments, it takes the entire discussion down to the lowest level. What's the difference between the accused and the accuser if that happens?
News coverage in the British publications completely blows away anything I’ve seen in US papers. Journalists here are borderline illiterate.
Funny, stating the obvious flat truth is an acid comment.
Killing someones daughter and then taunting them about it doesn’t clear their name.
It means they are STUPID and looking to die.
They do, but I appreciate that they describe them correctly.
Do you think that maybe that could be, well, caused by global warming?
AlGore is demanding carbon offsets be paid to him for all the CO2 released during the fire.
Global warming and a lack of study grants obviously!
/ bad joke.
Lol. More likely the other way around.
The police are very insensitive to the environment. They are not Mother Earth’s friends. Call in Captain Planet.
So much for all the caterwauling last night about the lack of due process and the lack of proof of Dorner's guilt. The perp in the cabin shot and killed a deputy at the location. Lord knows how many more might have been killed if the siege had continued for hours.
I even saw one poster claim that there was no immenent threat to the LEOs in the siege. Maybe that poster can call up McKay's widow and get her opinion on the matter.
Anyone who thinks the LEO's should've 'waited him out', aren't.
Oh good grief. I knew I should have given up the Internet for Lent. 30 days without idiots would have been nice.
The real heroes are the seven LAPD cops who pumped the lead into the back of the newspaper delivery ladies' truck without first identifying their target or giving a warning and the Torrance cop who rammed the side of the surfer's truck, then pumped three rounds into the windshield after he'd just been pulled over, checked and released.
This is the brave lot you should be cheering.
Truth? Where's the proof that A) this phone call was actually made and B) that Dorner was the one who made it?
Now the folks from the “Wicker Man” festival are offering him big bucks because it’s really hard to find a big celebrity crowd pleaser with experience to do a repeat performance.
Read his manifesto.
He said he was going to go after the families of the officers he had a disagreement with.
And he did.
The lady he shot was the daughter of one of the officers he had a problem with.
His manifesto is rather revealing.
Made him combustively angry apparently!
