Gen. Hassan Shateri, who was in charge of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards building projects in Lebanon, was shot dead Tuesday by a sniper, believed to be a Syrian rebel. The general had just  arrived in Damascus on a flight from Tehran and, according to Gulf sources, had set out for Beirut, when his car was stopped by an ambush and the sniper took aim. They assume that Syrian rebels had been tipped off on the vehicle in which he was traveling.
