FBI to desk-job LEO James: On average, 500,000 times a year the presence of a firearm prevents a felony. Many of these instances of using a firearm for self-defense are women defending themselves against abusive husbands, ex-husbands, and ex-boyfriends.

Taking away firearms will result in thousands of women being attacked and murdered every year.

And the left accuses conservatives of engaging on a ‘war on women.’

So I guess he carries his weapon to go shooting at people for sport?

...since he states it’s not for defense.

I was in Emeryville on Tuesday at the IKEA store. Here is what’s interesting about Emeryville, it has a very pro-business environment there, so Peet’s Coffee, Pixar, Title IX Sports, the Oaks Card House and the Powell Street retail/mixed-use property are all there.

This is a city that saw the light of private sector business...they can afford a Libtard like this to spew nonsense, they have 10,000 people.

Typical social snob. I’ll join the police force so I can have a gun to use at my discretion but my neighbor just isn’t fit to have a gun. All ‘public’ employees place themselves in the ruling class and the ones given guns shower themselves with accolades all the time.

Good point, shows the hypocracy in his statement.

The real crime here is asshats like this guy are one of two officials who can approve a CCL in Cal, the other being the county sheriff.

Chief Ken James is a moron.
It is good, however, for dimwits like him to have an opportunity to speak and expose themselves as total retreads.

On another thread, I said that police need to be under the firm control of elected civil authority. I am starting to re-think that as quaint but tragically out-dated.

No one in a police department is more directly accoutable to the elected officials than the chief. Generally, the chief is selected by and serves at the pleasure of the elected official(s). No union, no civil service.

And this is what we get - nearly every time. Just exactly what the elected officials want. We elect idiot petty tyrants and they in turn appoint idiot petty tyrants.

And, OBTW Chief, the 70’s called. They want their dry-look and moustache back. Sheesh, what a soup strainer.

“A gun is an offensive weapon used to intimidate and show power,” he asserted, explaining to the audience that police officers don’t carry weapons to defend themselves, but to do their job in a “safe and effective manner.”

Prima facia evidence as to a) why this idiot should NOT be a cop, let alone a police chief; and b) why "police" should be rare.

Police are the government's "intimidate and show power" arm.

So, if a firearm is NOT ever a defensive weapon, and ONLY an offensive weapon, then, Mr. idiot police chief (I'm trying to remain dignified - okay, so, I'm not) please tell the public what WE are suppose to use to DEFEND ourselves from criminals AND a tyrannical government??? Are YOU suggesting that if, someone is breaking into my home, my only defense of my home and family is to 1) allow these people free reign to fulfill their goals, or 2) call the police to come and DEFEND me with YOUR firearms??????

This man has NO business being in Law Enforcement, let alone being a police chief.

How this guy became a Chief is probably laughable. Any aware person knows/realizes there is a fine line between offensive and defensive actions. At least that is what I came to believe/realize in WWII.

Regarding the PC perspective that "the idea that the gun is a defensive weapon is a myth," the Supreme Court has already clarified the following as posted in related threads. The Founding States made the 2nd Amendment to clarify that guns compliment (my word) the natural right to self-defense, with or without the 2nd Amendment.
"The second and tenth counts are equally defective. The right there specified is that of "bearing arms for a lawful purpose." This is not a right granted by the Constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence. The second amendment declares that it shall not be infringed, but this, as has been seen, means no more than that it shall not be infringed by Congress. This is one of the amendments that has no other effect than to restrict the powers of the national government, leaving the people to look for their protection against any violation by their fellow citizens of the rights it recognizes, to what is called, in The City of New York v. Miln, 11 Pet. 139, the "powers which relate to merely municipal legislation, or what was, perhaps, more properly called internal police," "not surrendered or restrained" by the Constitution of the United States." --United States v. Cruikshank, 1875.

It's too bad that citizens are being intimidated by law enforcement officials who evidently do not know the Constitution that they swear to defend."

He’s an idiot. It follows that those who appointed him are idiots. Ergo, the people (electorate) in that city are idiots, Q.E.D.

There's a girl named Danae, who just turned 23. She was 18 at the time. She is damn glad a gun is a defensive weapon.

I still get free hugs whenever I see her.

“A gun is an offensive weapon used to intimidate and show power,” he asserted, explaining to the audience that police officers don’t carry weapons to defend themselves, but to do their job in a “safe and effective manner.”

I guess this means that none of his officers carry a weapon when off duty. Why I’ll bet the Chief even leaves his firearm at the office when he goes home. Don’t need a “safe and effective tool” if you don’t have a job to do.

The first part is correct and I’ll carry a gun without a shot being fired just on that part. The rest of his statement is a crock.

That’s what’s wrong with the jack boot mentality. Offense means that you initiate aggression. Is that what we want our police officers doing? They should be counteracting against the illegal and inappropriate aggression by others. That is defense. But in such cases it is appropriate to go on the offensive against illegal aggressors. But this police chief has it wrong. He should get his a$$ fired.

So, let’s say a bad guy isn’t intimidated by the show of power. What does this clown use to defend himself? Does he flash his badge and try to blind him? Or jiggle his belt so the leather makes that cool squeaking sound? Or pull his cap down a bit more over his eyes? Or frown harder? Beg the guy not to shoot him?

It is an offensive weapon in the hands of the police. That’s the fundamental problem with the mindset of the modern police force. It sees its role as one of enforcing compliance by means of the threat of lethal force.
