That all-out brawl at South High in Minneapolis got coverage from virtually every local outlet. At WCCO-TV, Esme Murphy reports: Twelve people complained that they had been sprayed with mace. Police at the scene said they had to use chemical agent to get the crowd under control as they were being pelted with objects as they tried to break things up. [One student] said the fights were over pride. I know its a pride thing between Muslims and black people, she said. They want their pride back for something. I dont know. She also said boys were hitting girls and that some people were lying on the floor, with their hands over their heads, in surrender. The fight, students say, was the result of long-simmering tensions between the 8 percent of students who are Somali Americans and the 20 percent who are African Americans.
The Strib story, by Paul Walsh and Kelly Smith, says, Guled Omar, a senior, said he was sitting in the cafeteria when the outburst began after a boy hit a girl. I don't feel safe here, Omar said. This is something that has been going on for at least two years, he said. I don't know if it's because we're minorities of the newest immigrant group, Omar added, saying he has complained to the principal and the School District.
KSTP-TVs story, reported by Joe Mazan, says: Classes will be in session Friday, the district said Thursday evening. The school will implement a safety plan to ensure that there is support for a safe learning environment. Additional counselors and support staff will be on hand. The school will operate under a code yellow Friday. Students will remain in their classrooms during class periods and access in and out of the building will be limited. The school will be on its normal schedule.
I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry or pray for what remains of the country/culture I knew as a child. Did all 3.
Good catch. It completely went over my head the first time. It reminds me of the Olympics a couple of years ago when some ditz couldn’t stop referring to a black athlete born and raised in Canada as “African American”. He had to correct her four or five times: “ma’am, I don’t know how to say it any clearer: I’m not African, and I’m not American.”
Good question. Just what do they teach Somalis during “Black History Month” The tales of Arab slave traders?
"Oh s---, here we go! It's on! Race War! Race War! Race War! Race war's on everybody! It's going down! S--- is going down!"
I’m not taking sides, but I guess the AA’s aren’t taking too kindly to becoming yesterdays minorities
That’s why I’ve started reading the comments first, before replying - you’ve already said it, it is indeed funny.
OK then, they are feral people.
I’ll bet part of the animosity/hatred has to do with Somalis getting to jump the line for public subsidized housing over the native born blacks. Due to Somalis refugee status. I saw an instance where Haitians were getting in ahead of native blacks
Well, technically, a Canadian is an American, of the “North and South America” variety.
A dictatorship remains in power by setting the subjects to fighting one another. Incidents like this are an intended outcome of our government’s policies.
You are just staying ahead of me on purpose (American)
I can’t help myself: it’s a school day.
As the Professor said, “Good heavens, what DO they teach them in these schools?” Not geography, obviously, any more than they teach Plato.
No Lutherans ?
I did’t lol— but my chin hit the floor, and then I just shook my head trying not to wake anyone else in the house with outbursts of foul language...
a little more coffee...then I might have laughed...
I’m in Eastern time, so everyone was up here.
This event puts Obama in a tough spot in making one of his racially divisive comments:
“If I had a son he would look like Omar oh wait I mean DeShawn oh wait I mean oh never mind”
Good point. Its not a problem until it leaks regularly into the neighborhoods of the our Betters. Until then these sorts of stories will be nothing more than bylines. However, as you pointed out (correctly) that its only a matter of time until it gets there.
They weren't 'allowed' to come in. They were brought in. Ask the Black Caucus what they were thinking when they demanded it. Who knows why they chose Minnesota and Maine? Neither location makes sense. Nothing about the project makes any sense. The poor immigrants didn't know about running water, washing machines, escalators and certainly knew nothing about snow and freezing temperatures.
Great, now we have tribal wars over here! ;-)
