GOP Denies Hagel Block A True Filibuster

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) (R) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) hold a press conference demanded answers on the attacks on an American diplomatic outpost in Benghazi and to announce they will hold President Obama's pending nominations until they receive the information for Defense Secretary and CIA Director

WASHINGTON, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- U.S. Senate Republicans denied their move to block Chuck Hagel's defense secretary nomination was a true filibuster because they expected Hagel to be confirmed.

They said they stalled the nomination because they wanted more information about their fellow Republican's post-Senate career, including certain foreign policy speeches and his private investment work.

"When the Senate returns on Feb. 26, there should have been sufficient time to consider Senator Hagel's record, so I will vote to end debate because I believe a president's Cabinet members deserve an up-or-down vote," Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., said on the Senate floor Thursday.

Alexander said his own nomination to be education secretary during the George H.W. Bush administration was put on hold by Democrats, although not by filibuster.

Democrats delayed Alexander's nearly two months because they wanted more information about his alleged involvement in corrupt financial practices while he was Tennessee governor in the 1980s. Alexander was later unanimously confirmed.

The White House was concerned Thursday's delay would give Hagel opponents, including conservatives and pro-Israel forces, time to step up their efforts to crush his chances of being confirmed, The New York Times said.

Once again, Republicans snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

So in other words: McCain and Grahman hold a very noisy press conference demanding answers but are going to confirm Hagel anyway.
Why are they even bothering, every single Republican who has stood up and demanded answers, has also said they are going to vote for conformation.
What a waste of oxygen they all are.

They always conciliate. Bush never had a veto. They are treated to a sort of feminist spousal abuse and they come back for more like idiot puppy dogs, in total denial.

NO, there is no war, globalization is fine, I peered in Putin’s soul and Islam is peace... let us be optimist imbeciles.

It's really not complicated. McCain and Hagel were at one time very close, but McCain dumped Hagel for Lindsey. At the time, I used to read all about it while waiting in line at the grocery.

I'm sure that there remains some powerful and painful feelings for all three of them, but they'll get over it.

Nothing defines “fool” more than a person who believes there is any difference between a Republican and a Democrat

Graham is just out for reelection. That’s all. He doesn’t want to thwart the democrat agenda, he just wants to appear to be against it.

Just trying to have their cake and eat it too. Trying to convince all of us that they really stand for something while at the same time accommodating Obama with minimal inconvenience.

Mccain, just how much did you co-operate with the North Vietnames?

Graham, just how many gay pages have you taken home with you?

Something made them turn.

A good tool is valuable. A cheap tool willl only bust your knuckles or work in a half-assed way.
