Thousands Gather On (CT) Capitol Steps To Call For Stricter Gun Laws
Hartford Courant ^

More than 5,000 supporters of tighter controls on firearms crowded the state Capitol Thursday morning, demanding action from the General Assembly in the wake of the Newtown school massacre.

"The American people have seen what happens in place after place...we cannot let what happened here in Connecticut ever be forgotten,'' Gov. Dannel P. Malloy told the crowd. "We will not rest until we have changed America. We will not rest until we have changed Connecticut."

Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, among a host of elected leaders speaking to the rally, said that "we have to make sure that no one says no to the families who lost. Their hearts might be broken but they are so strong, and we have to make sure we take a little of their strength to continue this fight."

"If we have to register to vote, we might as well register our guns," Wyman said.

March for Change, the citizens' gun control group that sprang up after the Newtown school massacre Dec. 14, chose Valentine's Day, the universal day for expressing love, to organize the rally at the state Capitol.

Thursday is also the two-month anniversary of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 20 children and six women.

The date is no accident, said Nancy Lefkowitz, the Fairfield County mother who helped organize the rally. "Our hearts are broken and we demand change,'' she said.

"I stand here as a parent ... and I have had enough," said Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.

"Enough-enough-enough," the crowd chanted in response.

So the anti-gun politicians bused in a bunch of kids from their schools to be props and body-count for their rally.

Why isn’t this waste of taxpayer money being investigated?

A little background on the group that organized this event, “Connecticut Against Gun Violence.” They are advocating for CONFISCATION of all “assault weapons” and mags over 7 rnds. Registration of all hand guns, renewed annual with background checks and fees.

They also skipped the school safety and mental health hearings in CT.

See #4 for what Malloy and others were supporting.

These people are misguided on so many levels . . . a failure to recognize (much less even understand) the Second Amendment . . . a failure to recognize that stricter gun control laws would have done little (if anything at all) in preventing the crimes by a few crazed individuals . . . these people are like Don Quixote imagining that the windmills are their enemies . . . these people also are terribly sick for exploiting tragedy as a platform to express their misguided self-righteousness.

Well, they inadvertently created a target-rich environment.

Apicture from the anti-gun rally. That appears to be 500-1000, no way 5K.

Fine. Fight for it for your own state. Leave the rest of us alone. Try Federalism for once - it’s pretty sweet.

They started a chant.

“We need more laws for guns!
Criminals take all our fun!
If we stopped all gun rights,
Criminals would have to steal ‘em at night!”

“Uh, wait a sec...”

“We might have a problem here...”

Great aerial. How did the good guys manage to get it? Accurate aerials are so hard to find from DC rallies, unless they make the bad guys look good.

I was at an anti-gun rally in Maryland a week ago. At least 5,000 in attendance. The main difference? Zero buses and I bet 80% took a day off work.

As a seasoned crowd counter, I would agree with you. Between 500 & 1000.

We know they had at least 6 school buses. A quick search reveals a school bus can seat from 50-80 passengers. Assuming 50 per pus and only 6 buses, that is 30%, assuming they got 1k.

You mean the Maryland pro gun rally which had over 3000 minimum. Even the Fraternal Order of Police supported the gun owners.
