Im also issuing a new goal for America, declared President Obama at his State of the Union on Tuesday. Well come to the particular goal he issued momentarily, but before we do, consider that formulation: Did you know the president of the United States is now in the business of issuing goals for his subjects to live up to?
Strange how the monarchical urge persists even in a republic two-and-a-third centuries old. Many commentators have pointed out that the modern State of the Union is in fairly obvious mimicry of the Speech from the Throne that precedes a new legislative session in British Commonwealth countries and continental monarchies, but this is to miss the key difference. When the Queen or her viceroy reads a Throne Speech in Westminster, Ottawa, or Canberra, its usually the work of a government with a Parliamentary majority: In other words, the stuff shes announcing is actually going to happen. Thats why, lest any enthusiasm for this or that legislative proposal be detected, the apolitical monarch overcompensates by reading everything in as flat and unexpressive a monotone as possible. Underneath the ancient rituals the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod getting the door of the House of Commons slammed in his face three times its actually a very workmanlike affair...[snip]

The Emperor’s Edict is Law!
Give yourself a “goal” Hussein O., RESIGN TODAY!
Obama, (capitalized only because I began a sentence) not knowing what a true American is and feels, is still hopelessly lost as to how an American President should act. (I consider him neither an American nor a legitimate President).
He conflates the office with a mix of imperialism, thuggery and community activism, none of which capture the true measure of the times, the spirit or the solutions and leadership needed at this juncture.
Yet, the deceived masses whose eyes have been blinded fail to apprehend this charade...
We may be out of power, but as long as we are not out of God’s will, we will prevail!
I certainly we can prevail, but if God wants the US to collapse, he wouldn’t have to wait long I feel
You are right there, brother.
Never would have believed I’d live long enough to see this crap passing for elected government.
2 Samuel 1:27 “How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished! “
Who else would give away their advantage, but a fool?
Exactly why is the GOPe wanting to allow the Democrats to commit national suicide?
I can only speculate that the “permanent political class” (Thanks, Sarah) are comfortable enough personally in their wealth and connections that they do not sense the disenfranchisement the middle class and below is experiencing.
Rocking the boat may serve us, but not them and they run the Repub machine.
Drinking single malt Scotch and expensive wine while the Titanic takes a list, they are oblivious to the tipping point.
Here in steerage we have a different view.
We’re the ones going to drown when we run aground
Except we know how to fix things, and grow things, and hunt and fish, and substitute and work around and make do with less without panicking.
It’s a huge irony (or something) that the U.S. threw off the Monarchy in a revolution, only to wind up with a King (by any other name, it smells the same) with increasingly despotic powers. Meanwhile, Canada (and other members of the Realm) kept the Monarchy — but, steadily decreased its powers, so that it’s mainly a figurehead position now. The embodiment of the state; but controlled by Parliament.
The permanent political class and the media believe that they will never be touched by the mess they have created.
Are they going to be surprised.
