By demanding Senate Democrats act first on major legislation, the House Speaker may help Republicans win back the upper chamber. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is passing the buck to the Senate and, in the process, he's lending a big hand to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) Boehner's move to force the Democratic-led Senate to take the lead on enacting President Obama's agenda puts him squarely in line with a top McConnell priority wresting control of the upper chamber from Democrats.

ABOUT DAMN TIME!!
So Boehners strategy as Speaker of the House is to pass the buck to the Senate.
NOW THAT IS LEADERSHIP./s/
Gee, with these two pulling the strings, what could go wrong?
Most times that is what it takes. No pun intended. Like most we just want it all right now just because we know we are right on the issues, but dems have the same thought in mind just that getting there takes a much different and dangerous road that leaves us hanging without a structure of founding documents, which I suggest is where we might all be, hanging, were it not for those sticky documents.
I almost feel silly pointing out something so obvious, but, in consideration of the fact that one of the primary causes of our nation's governmental problems is out-of-control, unconstitutional taxing and spending, practically the only "major" legislation there can be must originate in the House.
-- Article One, Section 7, the U.S. Constitution"All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives..."
“”All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives...” .......
OK. Not being one who is well read on the rules of Congress or the Senate, where does it state that the Congress MUST begin first? I welcome being educated on this.
That is the point, if the House does not give them a bill to modify, they cannot include tax increases.
That fact alone tells us a lot about Boehner and Co. They control the purse strings but have done exactly what?
Mr. Speaker, when will you appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Benghazi? Or are you part of the “What difference does it make?” crowd?
First understand that ‘Congress’ is made up of the ‘House’ and the ‘Senate’; both make up what is called the two chambers of Congress.
The House does not need to begin first. But they have the final authority on spending because they are the chamber that authorizes revenue and how it is spent, including how much debt can be taken on.
What the poster is saying is that Speaker Boehner has enormous power of the purse and he is not using it because he lacks the character and courage to do the right thing; he does not have the “right stuff”. His view of what is the right thing to do is to avoid and evade conflict and get reelected, not what’s good and needed for the country.
Assuming you mean the House of Representatives when you say 'congress' (congress is the House of Representatives & House of the Senate) then the word 'originate' is your answer.
NOW THAT IS LEADERSHIP./s/
Boehner led with his chin for the last 2 years. It was the budget reform bills that included reform to Medicare from Rep. Paul Ryan. That probably explains most of the House losses in November 2012 and special elections before that, especially in NY.
Many rats posed as moderates to get elected in 2008 to the Senate. (They repeated their 2006 strategy in both Houses of Congress. It killed a lot or RINOs.) Reid is stuck between advancing Obama's hard left agenda and protecting his "moderates." Let the Senate go first on gun control, immigration, minimum wage, climate change, etc.
Boehner is finally understanding how to play chess. It's about time. Reid and the Senate have been getting a free ride.
There have been zero laws passed that increase taxes since Boehner has been speaker.
The tax increases under boehner were the expiration of the Bush tax cuts.
Oh? Who do you think is going to repay the trillions in new debt?
Who do you think is going to pay for Obamacare after the Republicans funded it via the continuing resolution?
