Maryland Upsets #1 Duke 83-81
Maryland/Duke has been one of the best rivalries in college basketball. (Even if the Dookies don't want to admit it)
For many in Maryland, forget the superbowl just won by the Ravens...this is a win over Duke. Ranked #1 by USA Today, Duke traveled for possibly the last time to play basketball in Maryland as the Terps will be moving on to the Big Ten.
College officials, anticipating the burning couches and riots that can occur after Duke games, create their own "official" fire on campus to draw the students away from town.
This is nuts. In my day....there was NEVER a mob. Just a couple of us rolling the uni statue or pouring Tide into the water fountain to make it bubble for fun. Harmless.
Now, it’s like Fight Club.
Duke wasn’t even a unanimous #1 team...’#1 teams’ have been knocked off several times this year...big deal.
Bring in the horses? Bring in some billy clubs and water cannons...students could use a bath...except frat boy there on the left.
There are no outstanding teams this year. This could be the year a #16 beats a #1 seed.
What’s weird is that it’s Miami, that is by far the class of the ACC this season.

This is just a huge rivalry between MD and Duke, regardless of who’s ranked where.
The only way to stop this is to make an example of some of the students. Just arrest 20-30 and immediately expel them from the school. No re-admission for two or three years.
Let them deal with it. And their parents. Most are paying in-state tuition. Let them, if they want to continue with a college education, pay for private school.
And those who aren’t UMD students can cool their heels in jail for a year. Those are both resume enhancer. Maybe some others will then learn that it’s just not worth it to destroy others’ property.

Academically, Maryland is top 30, Louisville is way down.
Big 10, Pac 12 and ACC used to be top academic conferences.
ACC lost big time in terms of academics and general influence in the public.
You think academics and athletics are not linked ?
Stanford and Duke would be just another school athletically but the academics and influence of alumni make those schools outsized in terms of the public awareness.
Funny things is...there are no riots.
Look at the pictures. The are partying on Rt 1, just off campus.
Terp fans are just glad to have beaten Duke in the last game that will be played at Comcast.

The entire corridor was blocked and trash and glass were all over the street. Looked like the aftermath of a riot to me.
We locals need to go on campus and destroy their property. Maybe during finals week.
Back in the day, a lone riot like this was a reaction to kids being drafted to Vietnam to die. These idiots do this because they’re zombies.
