Here is a clip (less than 2 minutes) from a television movie called, 'The Contender' (2000). It is about a woman, Senator Laine Hanson, (played nicely by actress Joan Allen) who has been appointed by the President to replace his Vice President who passed away a few weeks earlier. In this clip, Hanson is testifying before the Senate during her confirmation hearing.
The movie is a liberal Hollywood producer's wet dream of the way big government should operate, and it is a dead-on window into the mind of today's typical liberal Democrat. In this brief speech, the nominee lays out exactly what liberal Democrats lust for in their hearts but can never say out loud: their religion is government, they want to "take every gun out of every home", the role of the military is to "stamp out genocide on this planet, because that is a cause worth dying for", eliminate the death penalty, etc. (By the way, notice that Senator Laine Hanson stops twice to take a drink of water):
"My church is this very chapel of democracy."
(( ping ))
She doesn’t need God to develop her moral absolutes, just her heart, brain and this chapel of democracy.
Poor dear doesn’t seem to understand the difference between an opinion and a moral absolute. Why should I or anybody else assign her opinion any greater moral value than that of Torquemada or Attila?
What is truly scary is that her words are cheered by liberals, and her statement is one that every liberal wishes they had the guts to make out loud. This Hollywood producer, Rob Lurie, found a way to say it by making an entire freaking movie!
Yup, I doubt one can find a single statement of the Founders that ties in with that meaning of the phrase. Not that any of them used it, to my knowledge, other than Jefferson in a single letter.
BTW, democracy is not a moral absolute. It is a way of determining the will of the people, who may very well want to do some highly immoral things.
As we are in the process of seeing in Egypt and other Arab countries, where Islamists are in the process of gaining power through entirely democratic means. As has been wisely pointed out, democracy can be two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.
The Founders were far more interested in putting restrictions on democracy than in setting it free.
Further comment would be more than a violation of FR posting rules. Much more.
She’s not qualified. I saw her take a drink of water at the start of her remarks!
The government specified by the U.S. Constitution is not a democracy.
“Take every gun out of every home”
Gee, I thought liberals just want to get guns `off the streets’.
moral absolutes no longer exist, nor does absolute truth. The only reality is what is in your own mind. post-modernism taught for 30 years and coming to fruition.
The blind have passed out free blindfolds.
Interesting factoid about Rod Lurie, the film’s producer
...Graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1984, he served in the US Army as an Air Defense Artillery officer...

Lokks like he went downhill after the Army.
We are not a Democracy, Libtards. . .we are a Constitutional Representative Republic!!. . AND. . .our Constitution was made for a religious and virtuous people. . ..SO STICK IT BEE-AHOOCH and take all your sanctimonious narcissistic claptrap and stick that too . . .AND. .you might also be interested to know that before you libtards re-interpreted the 1st amendment so as to separate, not church and state, rather. .America and Soul. . .there were REGULAR Sunday Services held in the Capitol Building. .where both Democrats and Republicans attended and gave devotion to GOD. ..the author of our rights and liberties. . .the rights and liberties that are even extended to Libtards who refuse to recognize their very source and say "thank you."
The movie was made in 2000. If you'll recall, there was a lot of that going around at that time, mainly on TV. Remember the very short-lived TV show. 'Commander in Chief' starring Geena Davis? The 2005 series was about the first female President and her family, and was supposed to set the stage for Hillary in 2008. The show lasted half a season. Guess who the producer was?
That's right - - Rob Lurie.
Thanks for that link. I remember trying to check Luire’s bio 10 or 12 years ago and found little. Naturally, I wondered if he was some relative of the Eagles’ owner. Apparently he is not.
He’s a real piece of work. From an interview about the film “Nothing But The Truth”...
...............................
FT:You must be happy about Obama. Can you believe the Republican pundits are already saying he can’t live up to our unrealistic expectations?
RL:I don’t think it’s unrealistic. I think he’s an extraordinary guy. I think he’s an extraordinary man. He was a year ahead of me in my high school at Punahou, although I didn’t know him.

The Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Awards were created in 2000 to recognize cartoons that "enhance, explain and help direct the spirit and principles of the UN." The awards are worth a total of $18,000.
It's not specific but you could read into that that Rod's dad Ranan my not have been very conservative, Rod may have been raised a liberal.
If so it's a little strange he'd attend West Point but then maybe a little like W.C. Fields he was "looking for loopholes." I know that's a real stretch but neither he or his dad are dummies, it says Ranan was a member of Mensa. Whatever the case may be they don't come much more liberal than Rod Lurie.
I’m afraid I don’t recall it. I didn’t watch much if any TV from about 1990 to 2006. Never heard of Rob Lurie or the series “Commander In Chief.” I watched plenty of TV in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s though so I do recognize both blatant and subtle propaganda when I see it. That clip from “The Contender” is pretty blatant.
