Tennessee police might need better instruction in botany and Buckeye football.

A 65-year-old woman recently came under suspicion, she reported, for having a Buckeye leaf decal on her car. The cops mistook it for a marijuana symbol.

“It’s just amazing they would be that dumb,” Bonnie Jonas-Boggioni said.

She lives in Plano, Texas, but she grew up in Columbus and is known as a lifelong Buckeyes fan.

Just show the cops a few young Texas Star Hibiscus if you want to get them interested. :)

Are they saying it would have been okay to pull them over if it had been a marijuana leaf sticker? No other reason to pull them over?

No, they would bring a dog, the dog would bark, and then the Bill of Rights would cease to exist.

I can’t do it but I’m sure there’s an FR out there who can post what a Buckeye tree leaf looks like and what maryjane looks like.

I’m waiting for the cops and holster-sniffers to come along and justify this astounding level of ignorance.

The one bright spot in this incident is that at least there were no dogs shot.

Neither the Tennessee Highway Patrol nor the Shelby County sheriff’s office in Memphis had information about the traffic stop. A marijuana sticker would not be a sufficient reason to stop a car, said a spokeswoman for the West Tennessee Drug Task Force.

Sounds like a local-yokel who must have thought that pot dealers put stickers on their cars to advertise like an ice cream truck.

They were told to check the car because it had a sticker that the cops thought meant the drivers were advertising that they were transporting marijuana? They are that dumb or paranoid?

No, I don’t think that any department is going to own up to this one if the driver didn’t remember who it was it will never be known. The cops will cover this episode of serial stupidity up completely.

I’m pretty sure if this was me, I would have been arrested. I wouldn’t have taken this without tons of snarky comments and a lot of “are you REALLY that stupid Deputy Fife?”

BTW Unless there is a statute which prohibits the illustration, or reproduction of the reefer leaf which is placed in public view. That’s a faulty cop stop and a law suit should be shortly comming.

THP and Shelby County Sheriffs lie in wait for vehicles with Texas plates on I-40 everyday. They actually get a lot of yields.

This was a “good” mistake on the part of the police. I can see how it was made in good faith.

Had I been stopped for the same, I would have thanked them for their attention to details...even if wrong.
