I have long thought hagel was Obama’s head fake in order to gain sympathy so his real selection would be confirmed with little obstruction. Someone like Awad, Lewis, Ayer...

Or...?

Meh. I don’t think so. I think McInsane lives for the dog cookie he will get from the media in the here and now, rather than to “control” something in the future. He sees a big-time “Atta Boy!” from his pals at the NYT and WaPo coming his way and he’s never shown an ability to resist that.

This is exactly right. There was an entire thread that made this point yesterday: Was Chuck Hagel Nominated Out Of Spite?

‘_______nothing to fear with BO in the White House.’

Funny - from the first time he said that, to the present, I ‘heard’ it mean: ‘I fear BHO in the White House, and soon, so will you. . .’

Both these idiots know that the people of Arizona and South Carolina will re elect them as long as they run for the office. Remember the gang of 5? This is all a big show and, as usual, we are the losers.

You have to wonder...what was going through the mind of the President and staff when the sequestration idea was first tossed around as an option.

They wondered "If this all goes to hell will our mouthpieces in the MSM be able to successfully lay it on the Republicans and deflect from us? Yes? No problems then."

Jarrett has all the power she needs right where she is.

If you want to put it in Nazi terms, she's Martin Bormann.

When do we EVER see a democrat critisizing another DEM—NEVER.

In Chicago, the gutless Democrats who would repeal the 2nd Amendment if they could get away with it have declared war on a tiny handful of other Democrats who, at one time, had a bit of a spine and supported gun owners' rights.

It's slightly entertaining to watch from out here in the suburbs.

Don't understand this 'he's President' and has the right to his nominees. Yes; he has a 'right' to nominate/choose; and the Congress has the responsibility to insure that this person is NOT a threat to our country's best interest.

Hagel is just that; more. . and worse.

Snap out of it; McCain; et al Repubs who think this may as well 'go down'; and that they have been judicious - enough - in protesting. Watching our Constitution being trampled is not an option. And when a President is the one doing it; then yes; better well; critique those who would aid and abet. . .Obama; already, has enough on the 'inside', doing just that.

Personally wondering, what was going through Boehner's mind; and et al Repubs. . .Why did they ever agree to include our Military in this agreement; knowing they would be 'key'. ..

That said; while perception is reality; Rand Paul offered today that the Military is, not 'really' being cut; that increases 'slowing down' over ten-years. He said it is not a bad as it sounds. But therein may lie the point; in any event. No one challenged Rand on this analysis; but this could explain why Repubs 'went there'. .. still stupidly so.

Better they had it in writing that Obama and Michelle would pay for all their vacations; beyond 'one'; and put a budget on that one. And get the over-the-top perks for Congress - out of there. . .After all; appearances do matter. And no one works appearances to their advantage; better than Obama and the Demrats themselves.

Repiblicans are beginning to back peddle on Hagel. They are going to let him go through because they learned the altenative waiting in the wings (Female Undersecretary) would be a disaster for the Military. Hagel is the lesser of the evils.

“At the same time, John McCain was on Press the Meat assuring David Gregory that Hagel would be confirmed as soon as they all got back from recess”

And you can bet your bottom dollar that democrat-wannabe
Juan McShame will vote for Pvt Goober’s confirmation.

“In a related development, former Senate Republican leader Bob Dole came out in support of Hagel. Dole, a decorated World War II veteran, saluted Hagel and said the Vietnam veteran has the “wisdom and courage” to be “an exceptional leader” of the Pentagon.”
