In the Big Band Mood
Just a quick drive-by post. Have to prepare lunch for my dear 94 y/o Mother.
“On the eighth day, God created Rush Limbaugh.”
Thanks for the ping. I had a washer repairman out on saturday and found out that my washer is on it’s last leg. Just dang, the current market for washers just sucks! The service dude was telling me that the gov’t mandates for efficiency has destroyed the washing machines and that most people hate the new models...
It reminded me of TGO’s statement, “they think we are smart enough to vote for them, but not smart enough to chose the right kind of washer.”
You can get some pretty inexpensive from the Sears Outlet stores. Good luck.
If you have an old Maytag (15 yrs old or more), it’s worth it to get it repaired no matter what the cost.
Your other option is to find another working old Maytag, and repair it when needed.
New washers, and dishwashers, combine “water saving” which is enviro b.s. with no-phosphate detergents to produce lousy results IMHO.
Any word about adguy yet?
I have found a couple of 3.4 cu ft washers that are very basic and look like just a standard model. One is a maytag, the other is a whirlpool and both are around $450. I have to check the size of my current one this evening, but I am very tempted to just go with one of these anyway.
I am hearing nothing but bad about the new high efficiency models!
Read the posts this weekend, sorry to hear of your loss.
Prays for you and your family. And also for ad guy.
Thanks. It was her time.
To me the whole concept of “water saving” is bogus. Another fedgov idea gone wrong.
Maybe there are some locations where water is very expensive or rationed, but I think they are minimal.
We have the new HE model and it works fine. The only bad thing about them
is they take longer to wash and if you don’t leave the door open after use
mold can grow.
The good thing about the HE dryer is it works really fast so it all balances out.
Hope you’re doing ok.
Can you unplug the washer between uses? I unplug everything that is not in use and have found that it is a phenomonal electrical usage reduction...
In addition, is your HE a topload or front load? I was considering a larger front load for a bit, but then I found out that these units have problems spinning rubber backed rugs (bathroom rugs) and heavy blankets/comforters.
Dang, it is all so confusing....why can’t I just go back to simple times...
Just good to be home.
Were you around DC for the ‘historic’ climate rally yesterday?
They billed it as the largest one in history. I think a few thousand nuts showed up.
We’ve had a front loader for 4 years and no problems...yet. The one good thing is it has a high speed spin and the clothes come out practically dry. Probably why the dryer works so well. You can also program it to do a whole bunch of different loads including a 30 minute short load but we rarely use it. Teaching the housekeepers how to use it was a pain though.
It was really cold and they were out on The Mall hehehe...
Literally, how many Gorebull Whining rallies have been snowed out or held in cold weather? Almost all of them? LOL!!!
This 3-day holiday didn’t work out too well for the ski lobby in New England this year...many areas are shut down due to high winds gusting in excess of FIFTY MPH from (snicker) ‘Winter Storm Plato’...only an inch or two of snow, but the winds are horrific...can’t have the clientele blown off the chairlifts. :-)
Why am I not surprised 0bama hangs out with a cereal adulterer?
They keep showing it on the weather channel.
Do these moonbats not know how stupid they look, all bundled up against the cold...protesting global warming?
I’ve got another 6 or 7, 23-yr old Builder GE Appliances starting to “go south”, having already replaced old GE furnace w/ hi-eff 96 sear Amana and HD 2-T Amana AC, and Rudd state-of-the-art, point-of-use water hear, over past 3yrs. Others are rapidly coming due for replacement and the costs are going to be very costly, due to ‘Green Energy” mandates/regs/rules. Not much choice, though with EPA etc commies running the gov’t.
PLease cc me when you hear an word, Clint.
What did the repair guy say was wrong?
I am pretty good mechanically.
Okay, so, end of first hour, Rush talks about his theory on Obama and the Immigration plan to get Congress to argue so much that the Dems take over the House. Now here is what is beginning to aggravate me. NO discussion on ANSWERS! We are now on to discussing the pre-existing conditions mess....
So can WE here on FR discuss some solutions to Rush’s posed problem? If Obama’s chess game is to have Congress argue about an immigration plan so as to have that to run on for 2014, what do we do to stop that? Do we take the issue off the table by passing something? Do we play right into his plans?
one word: commercial
I don’t doubt that some of what he said may be true, but I’m still a little skeptical of what washing machine repairmen say—after all, their business is to repair your machine, and not to sell you a new one (usually).
About six years ago, my machine broke down. I didn’t want to replace it at first, so I called a repairman I found on the internet. Big mistake.
He came over and gave me an estimate of $250+ to fix it, and advised strongly that I repair it because “those new models are so inferior.”
Well, I let him do it, and no more than two weeks later, the machine broke again. He never answered my return calls. So I ended up forking over about $300 or so for a new machine, what I should have done in the first place.
Child psychologists have determined that kids who watch Road Runner cartoons are more likely to grow up beating the $h!+ out of their classmates that children who watch Twilight Sparkle.
Oh, good grief.
I called him originally because it was frequently out of balance and so my research indicated that some springs needed to be replaced. He agreed, but then when he opened up the machine, he saw that the transmission was leaking and some pads were worn out. The total repair bill would be around $500.
He did say that if it was one generation older, then he would recommend rebuilding it and using it another 20 years. However, my machine was to young to have that durability...
My guy actually said it would be better for me to buy new than continually chase problems repairing my current one. I did appreciate his time telling me about the current state of the market. His company doesn’t sell appliances, so I appreciated his approach...
