Washington gun bill includes annual home inspections

December’s tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School has prompted lawmakers across the country to propose stringent gun laws. Washington state legislators now say maybe they’ve gone too far. Washington’s SB 5737 – 2013-14, introduced Feb.13 by three Seattle Democrats, like many similar bills, includes an outright assault weapons ban. Individuals already possessing an assault weapon are “allowed” to retain them, but with the proviso that the owners submit themselves to annual police home inspections. “They always say, we’ll never go house to house to take your guns away,” said Lance Palmer, a Seattle trial lawyer and self-described liberal to The Seattle Times. “But then you see this, and you have to wonder.”

The last time government authorities routinely conducted warrantless home searches on this continent, the people responded with a revolution.

South Africa has a law like this, and the police simply cannot keep up.

Apparently now, they'll have to check for cricket bats, as well.

“owners submit themselves to annual police home inspections”
May your chains rest lightly upon you, Evergreen denizens.

"...with the proviso that the owners submit themselves to annual police home inspections."

And you better bring a Search Warrant......even if they've traded their rifles for farming tools, like I did....

Not a good idea on the liberals part. The coast may be infested with liberals, but, everything east of the cascades in washington and oregon are no man’s land as far as liberals are concerned. It’s way too remote and liberal unfriendly for them to venture out there, and survive.

Annual police inspections begs another question. If they walk in, and decide to look at other things...like a funny smell that relates to a meth lab, or a number of power tools in the garage that appear to be excessive (maybe stolen), or piles of junk lining the interior...what else will they attempt to accomplish?

Other than someone in immediate danger...generally, there is no such thing as a warrant-less search.

I don’t think any police chief would sit there and be agreeable to ordering his men to start a ten-home a day inspection process. You’d have to conduct when the people are home. You’d have to have at least four cops because most folks won’t agree to it. You’d have to arrest people for failing to comply. You’d have people threatening to shoot cops on the force...even at their private residence. You’d also have to force the cops to conduct home inspections of their own members, the city council, and up-standing members of the community. Imagine arriving at the gates of Bill Gates house with sixteen cops and announcing your intention to conduct a home inspection. Bill’s private army isn’t about to allow you entry.

For some reason the elected never put such ideas as this to a public vote at election time. Why is that?

Bill’s (gates) private army isn’t about to allow you entry.

I’ve got news for them, my private army, me and my wife, are not going to let them in either, unopposed.

FRiend DTogo, are you following up on your lead: That Lanza went to the high school, saw cops, so then went to the `gun-free zone?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2989564/posts
“Heard it second hand through the Newtown grapevine this weekend that there is surveillance camera footage on Dec 14, 2012 likely showing Adam Lanza pulling into Newtown High School before heading to Sandy Hook Elementary. Evidently there was some sort of drug-related police presence at the high school that morning, more than the daily single squad car out front, that may have deterred him to a softer target.”

If Washington state’s Democrats believe that their police have enough time to toss taxpayers’ homes, mebbe they should think about sending their cops to schools, instead of their citizens’ homes.
Of course, *that* would require an *actual* concern `for the children’/public—and not a stinking lefty political agenda.

As a postscript, from a strictly `act’ utilitarian standpoint—maximizing the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest number of people (or even in terms of simple economy) one would think there are a lot less schools than citizens’ homes.

Of course, we can’t expect to make any hay—with the Party of Abortion on Demand—with the argument that protecting children from bad guys is a categorical imperative.

So we’re back to `stinking, lefty political agenda’.
Molon labe `rats.

This is going nowhere - by design. All it is is a "Hey, we tried" symbolic act for their loony base. The dhimmicrat sponsors are distancing themselves from it and even the dipsh!t author palmer admits that it is fatally flawed.

What it is though is a crystal-clear picture of what they would like to do.

The two Democrat legislators who introduced the bill said they never read it - eight pages they didn’t read. Not only that, the same thing was proposed in WA back in 2005. They’ll keep trying to sneak it in under some bill “for the kids” ...

I have been praying for years that all the land east of the Cascades become part of northern Idaho. Maybe this will be the final straw and the state will break in two like it should have done years ago. No California liberal speaks for me or any of my friends in Eastern Washington and never will.
