Is Your Local Police Department Using Pictures of Pregnant Women and Children for Target Practice?

What if I told you police in your town could desensitize themselves to the idea of shooting a (armed) child, pregnant woman, or young mother, for just a couple of bucks? The "No More Hesitation" series from Law Enforcement Targets Inc. offers exactly that. For less than 99 cents per target, police can shoot at real-life images "designed to give officers the experience of dealing with deadly force shooting scenarios with subjects that are not the norm during training."

Update: The marketing team at Law Enforcement Targets, Inc. sends along this helpful explanation for the "No More Hesitation" series:

"The subjects in NMH targets were chosen in order to give officers the experience of dealing with deadly force shooting scenarios with subjects that are not the norm during training. I found while speaking with officers and trainers in the law enforcement community that there is a hesitation on the part of cops when deadly force is required on subjects with atypical age, frailty or condition (one officer explaining that he enlarged photos of his own kids to use as targets so that he would not be caught off guard with such a drastically new experience while on duty). This hesitation time may be only seconds but that is not acceptable when officers are losing their lives in these same situations. The goal of NMH is to break that stereotype on the range, regardless of how slim the chances are of encountering a real life scenario that involves a child, pregnant woman, etc. If that initial hesitation time can be cut down due to range experience, the officer and community are better served."

I've been watching this unfold. Action Targets, which bought Law Enforcement Targets, tried to distance themselves from the situation. Now both have "apologies" posted on their Facebook pages:

"We apologize for the offensive nature of our “No More Hesitation” products. These products have been taken offline due to the opinions expressed by so many, including members of the law enforcement community.

This product line was originally requested and designed by the law enforcement community to train police officers for unusually complex situations where split-second decisions could lead to unnecessary loss of life.

Consistent with our company mission as a training supplier (not a training methods company), we will continue to seek input from law enforcement professionals to better serve their training objectives and qualification needs. We sincerely appreciate law enforcement professionals for the risks they take in providing safety and defending freedom."

The announcement of the purchase of LET:

We know who they think the enemy are.

White people in their own homes and yards and none of them were holding “assault rifles” either.

Those targets may have been taken “offline”, but will probably still be marketed behind the scenes. Disturbing.

I these are used for shoot/don’t shoot scenarios, I don’t have a problem with it.

Where are the minority-portrayed no hesitation targets.

Homeland Security is sick.

And then some question why we no longer consider the Federal government to have any legitimacy in ruling, I mean governing, us.

Hard to think of myself as a citizen of this corrupt mess any longer.

Or if they have a special site for Obamaland insecurity....

They have pictures at the source article. The targets are depicting holding real weapons so they are intended to be shot, reducing the inhibitions of cops from shooting children, pregnant women and old people regardless of the unlikelihood of the scenario.

Once on the Internet always on the Internet. These are the targets before they took them off their web site. The targets are still available for purchase.

For the person that thinks this is a shoot/no-shoot type of poster, wrong. These are "shoot!" posters; people supposedly posing a threat by pointing a gun. The cop is supposed to shoot these as a desensitizing training to shoot ordinary people.

That’s not the case.

Statement from the company:

“I found while speaking with officers and trainers in the law enforcement community that there is a hesitation on the part of cops when deadly force is required on subjects with atypical age, frailty or condition (one officer explaining that he enlarged photos of his own kids to use as targets so that he would not be caught off guard with such a drastically new experience while on duty). This hesitation time may be only seconds but that is not acceptable when officers are losing their lives in these same situations.”

Anyway, “No More Hesitation”? That’s hardly ambiguous as to the purpose.

To be consistent they should also have targets of uniformed police officers. Then they can learn to shoot at their own, which are much more likely then pregnant moms and children to become a threat.

That’s exactly what they are for...forces officers to look at the hands...and SEE what is in them before making the decision to pull the trigger...
