A year later, Trayvon Martin case murkier than ever

The simple story — cops yawn when burly white vigilante stalks and kills unarmed African-American child for the "crime" of walking while black — shocked the conscience of much of the nation a year ago and touched off an explosion of indignant demagoguery.

Trayvon Martin, 17, was walking through a Sanford, Fla., subdivision early on the evening of Feb. 26, 2012, headed from a convenience store to the home where he was staying with his father. Off-duty neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, 28, was driving to the grocery store when he saw Martin and called police to report that an unfamiliar teen was behaving suspiciously.

Zimmerman got out of his car and, nearly six minutes later, roughly 200 feet away, shot and killed Martin at close range with one bullet to the chest.

On one side were those who believed the story illustrated the evils of racism and firearms as well as the deference law enforcement affords white people.

On the other side were those who believed that Zimmerman, whose mother is Hispanic, acted in self defense, and that his arrest a month and a half after the incident in the face of mounting public pressure illustrated the perils of mob rule.

The story that Trayvon Martin was “only” walking home is fiction, and we know this because of the recording of Zimmerman’s 911 telephone call. When you read the transcript of the 911 call, note the elapsed time in comparison to the transcript, and compare that timeline to the Google maps aerial view of the complex; you can see how Trayvon Martin evaded observation, bypassed his residence, and doubled back to confront and attack Zimmerman. There can be no truth to the claim Trayvon Martin was unable to walk home because Zimmerman attacked him, because Trayvon Martin was already at his residence when he returned up the sidewalk to confront Zimmerman.

AS the 911 recording indicates, Trayvon Martin walked directly by Zimmerman’s vehicle, and he proceeded down the street and on to a sidewalk between the buildings that led to the city street on the other side. He then turned to the right and went down the sidewalk paralleling the city street as he passed around the corner of the building and out of Zimmerman’s view. This observed and recorded fact is a problem, because Trayvon obviously did not turn to the right onto the street and sidewalk on the near side of the buildings that led directly to his residence. if Trayvon martin wanted to walk directly home, he would not have bypassed the street and sidewalk leading to it in order to take a more distant route on the outside of the building complex.

Now some people are trying to argue that Trayvon Martin didn’t turn right and go down the street and sidewalk to the front door or rear door of his own residence becausee he was being followed by Zimmerman and did not want to lead Zimerman to his residence. Such an argument makes no sense whatsoever, because Trayvon Martin doubled back past his residence to the place where he attempted to kill or injure Zimmerman.

When Zimmerman left his vehicle to follow Zimmerman, Trayvon Martin passed out of view as he went arond the corner of the building complex. By the time Zimmerman reached that corner of the building complex to where he could look down that city street and sidewalk, Trayvon Martin was already out of view. based upon the time lapse recorded by the 911 call, the only explanation for Zimmerman being unable to see Trayvon Martin from his position on the sidewalk at the corner of the building is that Trayvon Martin had already started to doubleback by either run down the sidewalk to run around the far end of the building complex or had run part way down the sidewalk and ducked out of view as he ran between a gap int he buildings of the complex.

Unable to see Trayvon Martin and following the instructions of the 911 dispatcher, Zimmerman turned around an reeversed his steps to return to his vehicle. As he dis so, immerman was passing by the sidewalk that led down between the lines of buildings in the complex in their rear. This is the same sidewalk that led down to the residence where Trayvon Martin was staying. If Trayvon Martin had wanted to esacape Zimmerman, he had already done so as evidenced by the 911 call. Trayvon Martin was already in the vicinity of his residence, and he could have quite easily entered his residence in complete safety without Zimmerman having any opportunity to observe him doing it. Instead, Trayvon Martin for some reason chose to not enter his residence, and he chose to leave the vicinity of his resdence and come in the opposite direction up the sidewalk to intercept Zimmerman as Zimmerman was returning to his vehicle.

Trayvon Martin appoached Zimmerman from the direction of his residence, which was no behind Trayvon Martin, and he chalenged Zimmerman wanting to know why Zimmerman had been following him a few minutes earlier. This challenge diverted Zimmerman from returning to his vehicle and caused him to meet Trayvon Martin on the sidewalk running behind the lines of the residences n the building complex. It was here that the fatal confrontaion took place.

It is clear from the 911 recording that the only reason Trayvon martin did not enter his residence in safety was because he chose to not do so, and he instead sought to meet with and confront George Zimmerman. The storyline that Zimmerman kept Trayvon Martin from walking home is a complete fairy tale.

I read the "piece" and several comments, some of which are no longer there. I wrote my own respectful reply, pointing out the tendentiousness of Zorn's writing, from the aside in the first sentence that was clearly intended to color the entire piece against Zimmerman. Other statements Zorn chose to make and others facts he chose to omit make painfully clear what a piece of propaganda this was intended to be!

My comment and at least a couple of others to the on-line article were deleted. That dinosaur media apparently believes First Amendment rights exist for the media, but not for the lowly citizenry.

In the midst of Zorn's claims to present both sides, the truth is quite the opposite!

He may well have been casing the joint, but there is no evidence of that. There is evidence however that he was drinking his cough syurp/alcohol candy brew and smoking a cigar with the middle taken out and replaced with marijuana.

Martin was in a fight club, was caught with stolen jewelery and burglary tools on him. He cold cocked a bus driver. He was mixed up with the crudest of the crude.

Martin deserves to be right where he is, 6 feet under.

Zimmerman was a productive member of society. He did not want to be involved with the neighborhood watch group but got pressed into service from the community residents.

He is a good person who has been maligned from day one. I hope he walks away from all of this after the first hearing on self defense. I also hope he makes millions from CBS and ABC.

Trayvon was standing on the grass in the rain looking into darkened apartments. That's what initially aroused Zimmerman's suspicions. He may not have been casing apartments to rob, but he was sure acting as if that was what he was doing.

If Zimmerman gets off, Eric Holder is sure to come after him on civil charges for depriving Trayvon of his civil rights.

The irony is that Zimmerman himself is partly of African descent--but the media labeled him as "white" because of what they took to be a Jewish surname.

I suggest you GOOGLE the following: LEAN, SKITTLES, TRAYVON, ZIMMERMAN, and also watch the videos from the 7-11 Store. See the 'crew' that Trayvon met up with at 7-11. See how Trayvon seems to be a bit 'hazy' as he can't find his way out of the store.

Here is a picture of Trayvon purchasing SKITTLES and ARIZONA WATERMELON FLAVORED DRINK, which are two of the three ingredients for LEAN.
