MARIETTA, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) — Marietta Public Schools have added “panic buttons” to its schools in response to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

WGCL-TV reports that these “panic buttons” will immediately place a call to 911 when pushed by school officials.

"... these “panic buttons” will immediately place a call to 911 when pushed by school officials."

Just what I would expect from school bureaucrats... only an official like a principal or vice principal would be allowed to push the panic button and I'm sure the teachers unions would find pushing panic buttons are not part of their union contracts or would demand extra compensation for the new responsibility of pushing panic buttons.

If we are to have safe schools let security professionals and law enforcement design the security systems not these idiot school administrators and bureaucrats.

When a liberal is about to lose a debate, leaving the conservative side as the only self-evident true option as a solution, muddy the waters or create a false hope symbol (panic button) to shut up the masses.

I usually go to traditional services at our church. It is at 8:30 and contemporary is at 11:00. The other day we went to contemporary and was amazed at the number of girls wearing strapless, having their bra strap visible, tight skinny jeans, and one girl in her pajama pants. We don’t let our girls dress like that for any event. Some of the women wore shirts with cleavage abundant. The boys wearing cargo or athletic shorts and t-shirts (one had holes in it) and flip flops. Half looked like they just got up. This big town Baptist Church is a far cry from the smaller, conservative Baptist Church we were members of for 15 years until we moved here.

I know the Lord doesn’t care so much and you may not can afford better (I find that hard to believe as every one of them had a iPhone and iPod), but I see it as a lack of respect for His house and for the other attendees. I find that the elder members turn a blind eye all in the effort to attract members. There is just no effort or pride on most peoples’ part anymore.

Push the panic button and a fellow teacher will come running to throw pencils and scissors at the killer... Yep - gun free zones - where only the killer is armed.

"On tests or on their spouses?"

That's funny :-)

Remember the Hot'lanta cheating scandle? (I wonder how many STILL work there...most, probably).

“The other day we went to contemporary and was amazed...”

You forgot the coffee bar, widescreen TV...and what I call the Yanni hymnal (almost hypnotic in notes and words, and BORING - give me that old time music).

Just silly stuff.

Yeah. Public schools seem to be very forgiving when it involves school personnel, but let any kid make a finger gun and there’s hell to pay.

MA public schools should be abolished. They are absolutely no good for anyone anymore.

I just hope enough parents in MA get very vocal about this latest travesty. It’s their kids they have to think about — not this harmful PC nonsense. This is official child abuse. This is horrible!

Also the difference in attentiveness and respect for the pastor and the Word. In the traditional every one is heads up listening. In the contemporary at least a third, if not half, of the attendees are on the phones texting, posting to fb, surfing, or playing that scrabble game. I haven’t seen anyone with earbuds in but I am sure it is coming. Funny how contemporary has up to twice the numbers on any given Sunday.

why don’t they just give them those big red “easy” buttons, they will be literally as effective at stopping a mass murderer.
