Switzerland 's only wild bear is killed as a danger to humans

M13 was the only bear known to have been living wild in Switzerland, according to the Swiss national broadcaster.

Despite that status, the young male was shot Tuesday morning in Poschiavo Valley, in the Alps near the Italian border, by authorities who feared he was a threat to people.

The creature also showed little fear of humans despite several attempts to get it away from villages, it said.

There was so much concern about the bear's behavior, he was fitted with a radio collar so he could be closely monitored.

Some questioned why he wasn't relocated or placed in a zoo rather than being shot by wildlife officers.

Bingo. Since he was the only wold bear in the Country, he should have ben tranquellized and put in a zoo.

Nobody should have to deal with a large brown bear following them with a hungry look in his face, but shooting the critter was plain stupid.

More cops with itchy trigger fingers.

Bears can cross borders — they come from surrounding countries.

“Eight bears have entered Switzerland since 2006, the WWF said.”

More:

“According to the Swiss Federal Environment Office, M13 was one of about 40 individuals originating in the Trentino Alto Adige area of Italy, where a reintroduction program is under way.”

Or they could have repatriated him...since they already captured him once, they could have just taken him back to Italy, where they were trying to have more bears.

They stupidity of these people is monumental...

Did they check his papers when he crossed the border? As far as the wwf, most of them should be tranquilized. When the wake up they should be naked in the middle of the amazon jungle. See how much they like communing with nature.

It wasn’t the cops — some “environment office” decided it should be killed and “wildlife officers” were the ones who shot it.

"He was neutral"

Nope, he was an Italian bear so he had an opinion about everything, and he couldn't even growl for two seconds without waving his paws all over the place.

So nothing can be allowed to live free — that would be a “danger to humans”. Our world has become a sad, freedom-hating place.

He was Italian. Now he is full of holes so he is Swiss.

M13 was the only bear known to have been living wild in Switzerland

Rangers and enviros have no idea how many animals are in the woods. That would require them to go into the woods.

There were no mountain lions in Connecticut—until someone in a tony section of Fairfield County hit one with his car on a commuter parkway last year. The rangers denied the dead, 100-pound lion existed, then tried the old "He must have escaped from a private zoo" gambit, but finally were forced to make a statement. They declared the cougar was from Wisconsin, and had gotten lost and wound up in Wilton, Conn. (We don't have to make this stuff up. They make it up for us.)

Which just raises the question of how many others have gotten lost the same way. Anybody feel like lunch? In Connecticut, you could be.

There are entirely too many cowardly bullies uniformed armed and protected by the world’s governments.

A few years back, I pulled this Swiss guy outta a ditch he had backed his rented travel trailer in. He later stopped by my house and a local Indian buddy and me were drinking a beer. The Swiss Guy said they were having wolves move into their country from Italy. The Indian told him he better hurry up and shoot them. ha ha
