I was talking to a young military wife about her life, and she was troubled because her husband had parked his vehicle on base next to a bazillion dollar tuna can. Three of the car’s tires were slashed. I asked how such could happen on a military base. She isn’t really sure, but she launched into a list of things. I guess that the barracks for single men is next to this area, and she says that the single guys resent the married guys because single guys in general serve more duty time than their married counterparts. I suggested that the single guys in the barracks marry each other. Problem solved. (as for the reasons that people slash tires of military personnel on base, I am outraged that this goes on. I guess it is a common occurrence there. But this has nothing to do with healthcare. hah)

Yes, only three. Isn’t that odd? (no pun intended) I wondered if they were afraid of being seen/caught. There are no cameras recording the goings on. No one is in the parking lot during the day.

That's the general idea. We all wake up one morning and realize none of us have coverage, and we panic and all march on Washington, D.C. to demand Single Payer.

Oh, I'm sure he/they DID know. Companies will dump spousal coverage to compensate for all the other mandated coverage - 26 year old kids, free contraception, mental health coverage, free preventative care (prostrate exams, I think are free now), etc.

This will end up becoming a significant paycut for families with one paycheck when the other spouse must go out and purchase their own insurance.

I believe Obummercare goes into full effect in 2014. That leaves Obummer 2 years to have to eat this crap. In that time perhaps some sense will appear and it will be done away with.

That is what I hope, but there is no guarantee.

My premiums are based on 1) employee only, 2) employee and spouse, 3) employee, spouse and children. I'm currently paying item 3 as my youngest son is "eligible" until August this year. If coverage for my spouse is dropped, she can simply tell her employer to add her back. We will each have "employee only" coverage with our respective employers.

None of us really has any idea what the medical insurance situation is going to be a couple years out. It is impossible to plan.
