Utah Trooper Accused of Making Bogus DUI Arrests

During her 10 years as a Utah state trooper, Lisa Steed built a reputation as an officer with a knack for nabbing drunken motorists in a state with a long tradition of tee totaling and some of the nation's strictest liquor laws.

Steed used the uncanny talent - as one supervisor once described it - to garner hundreds of arrests, setting records, earning praise as a rising star and becoming the first woman to become trooper of the year.

Today, however, Steed is out of work, fired from the Utah Highway Patrol, and she - and her former superiors - are facing a lawsuit in which some of those she arrested allege she filed bogus DUI reports.

Destroyed lives and put into question every single DUI arrest in the state.

Also sad that she was willing to risk destroying her own career to further her career.

That kind of abuse by a state trooper is what, slowly but surely, erodes confidence in and respect for authority. Drunk driving is a plague and a serious offense. To charge drivers who were already proven to have absolutely no alcohol in their system with DWI is outrageous. This women should never be given that kind of authority again. The department superiors who winked at her abuse of drivers to look good and bring money into the state coffers are just as culpable. I hope the lawsuit goes forward and succeeds in a big way.

Will she still collect her lavish lifetime pension? YES. This ‘girl power crazy’ biatch should be in prison. I wonder how many dogs she’s shot.

officers are normal people. capable of lying to further careers, get revenge on people, etc.

which is why courts should no longer regard them as unimpeachable witnesses.

the sheer number of officers - feds groups, local cops, sheriffs, marshalls, etc, just inreases the number of corrupt ones that do this.

no more unimpeachable witness status by the courts for officers. hell they have cameras, they leave their mics on when talking to suspects or witnesses, they aren’t helpless.

Had this done to me when I lived In Corpus Christi, TX.

From first hand experience I can tell you she couldn’t do this on her own.

Prosecuting attorneys had to know she was doing it and so did defense attorneys.

This took a coordinated cover up.

DUI is a major life changing event. To do this to innocent people is reprehensible and unrepairable. It’s hard to imagine an appropriate penalty, but I hope someone in Utah thinks up the right answer.

WTH are you talking about? She's 10 years short of qualifying.
From the story - "During her 10 years as a Utah state trooper ..."

The bitch needs to be in PRISON as an example to any others who might be disposed to do crap like this. GENERAL POPULATION would be good — for as long as she survives!

Yes she should. Falsifying a police report is a felony.

They probably wont prosecute because they don’t want to prove their own negligence for the lawsuits.

If they do prosecute watch for the prosecuting attorney to throw the case so as not to prove their own negligence.

Ahhh, sometimes these things take a different track altogether that may not be familiar to many.
I’m personally familiar with a case (man) that was a LEO for 10-12 years or so and was/is of the mind that he’s above the law. A very brutish sort of fellow. Regardless, his unethical traits caught up with him. He was fired from the force for lying in particular and misuse of gov property.
He appealed his case for multiple years with continual findings of his guilt and the discharge upheld.
His next avenue at roughly 36-37 yr old was to file for diasbility pension (lifetime) against the city.
It was awarded (union controlled panel). Tax dollars at work and as a sidebar, he certainly isn’t disabled and is a very fit man.

I can guarantee you if the Utah Highway Patrol has a union contract you will find right in the contract the way for a UHP to avoid a complaint being filed against them is to claim the person filing the complaint is intoxicated.

Ten years is enough in most states to be vested.....so this rogue cop will collect some sort of retirement later on.....I do not live in UT ...but LEOs tend to get decent pension
