Beware of good ol’ Joe Biden and his guns
The Washington Times ^ | 22 February 2013 | Wes Pruden

Joe Biden, a gun nut. Who knew?

The veep never fails to entertain, even when he’s trying not to, and this time his boss is probably not amused. Joe famously pushed President Obama to endorse same-sex marriage by sniffing the orange blossoms first, but if his advice for Americans to buy a shotgun to protect the homeplace was an attempt to convert the president to a Second Amendment aficionado, he’ll no doubt fail.

Joe’s endorsement of domestic mayhem in the cause of survival predictably infuriated those who are so terrified of guns that on certain playgrounds even little boys who make an imaginary gun with tiny thumb and forefinger risk having their hands seized, or at least being sentenced to a trip to the principal’s office, followed by suspension.

Firing from the hip is always dangerous. When someone named “Kate” asked the veep, on a Facebook forum sponsored by Parents magazine, whether the president’s attempt to disarm America would make “law-abiding citizens become more of a target to criminals,” good old Joe’s working-class instincts from his origins overcame diplomacy, tact and discretion.

“Is this Parents magazine?” he asked in disbelief. “I have Parents magazine in my home, I’ve never heard anybody in Parents magazine ask these kinds of questions, but I’m delighted to answer them. Kate, if you want to protect yourself, get a double-barreled shotgun.

I wouldn’t trust Joe Biden with a water gun.

Joe’s advise was to get a double-barreled shotgun and fire wildly into the darkness to keep burglars away. Nobody from the MSM called him a dangerous idiot. I’ll step up to the plate and do it.

I'll go a little beyond that.

It was generational indoctrination that gave us Biden and company. I would encourage anyone who ever voted for a Democrat or might do so in the future to follow weird Uncle Joe's advice.

Trans-generational suicide might be just what it takes to rid the rest of us of this scourge.

I recently had a female family member ask me what gun to get for self defense. I told her to get a Glock 23. I said, any home intrusion will put you with in 10ft of the intruder. You don't want to be carrying anything where someone could reach out and grab the barrel.

Now if I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Joe Biden giving gun advice...errr really??!

I always thought of him as a spit wad kinda guy.

Revealing his conops made him vulnerable.

OTOH he lives at teh Naval Observatory, a military base with fences, cameras, and people with guns so it’s pretty unlikely he’ll be facing intruders.

Joe’s mental image of the encounter is that his wife hears a rustlin’ in the bushes, while she’s sipping tea on the balcony of their chalet.

Then she simply picks up her trusty Elmer Fudd double barrel, and scares the riff raff away...so they can go prey on somebody a little less high brow.

For the rest of us, our mental picture involves feral youth busting through our door en mass and destroying everything and everybody important to us. That’s because we’re not as smart as Joe.

I wonder why Joe thinks an AR-15 is hard to shoot. I never found it to be so. What experience does he have with it, anyway?

Heh...I guess it’s time for the White House Photoshop crew to get to work again to “prove” that Joe shoots AR-15s “all the time”.

Let’s not forget that it was Joe “Jackass” Biden that was on the cover of American Rifleman (NRA publication) every other issue as the senator pushing the most gun-control legislation and one of the top anti-2nd Amendment politicians.

Frankly, remembering how he was such an anti-gun opponent in the 80’s made me think it was crazy for Obammie the Commie to select him as VP in 2008.

And remember that other leftist, anti-2nd Amendment activists were campaigning earlier in the week that we don’t need firearms to stop a mass shooter.

All we need to do is wait for them to reload and then tackle them.

So Biden’s advice to his wife is sure to get her killed by an attacker, because all they have to do is wait for her to empty both chambers and then tackle her when she reloads.

Now, we all know that this is absolutely silly, because his wife has 24x7 ARMED security and they would never let her go outside and blast her shotgun when she is under attack.

Actually, from my studies, I've learned that a shotgun with a short barrel (18”) and open choke loaded with a light shot (#5 or so) is a better home defense gun. I wouldn't use a double-barrel like Joe the Jackass suggests, but a tactical pump like the Remington 800 series. Depending on the model, they hold up to 8 rounds, so you have plenty of follow-ups. And you get the benefit of the “racking” sound which reports have found scares the tingle down Chris Matthew's leg out of intruders.

The problem with a pistol is that it is very difficult to hit your target, especially in the middle of the night when you are scared and adrenaline is pumping and someone is in your home.

The other problem with a bullet is that, if/when you miss, the bullet can go through several walls and still be lethal.

The many follow-up shots in a semi-auto pistol are an advantage, but there is the disadvantage that if you miss 7 or 8, that is 7 or 8 bullets tearing through your walls. Many smaller calibers also do not have the stopping power needed to down an intruder that is crazy or on drugs. Mel Tappan recommended nothing smaller than a .40 caliber. Read his Survival Guns for details.

The shotgun gives you a much larger target pattern. You can miss a little and still hit your target. When you hit, the grouping of that light shot still has all the impact needed to down any intruder. If some of the shot misses, it will lose much of its power hitting wallboard (buck shot will still retain quite a bit). If you miss completely, the shot will penetrate the wall board but much of its killing power will be lost.

Frankly, if an intruder is close enough to grab a shotgun out of your hands, you're no safer with a pistol. He or she (let's not be sexist here and think that all dangerous intruders are male) is too close.

I loved this bit from Pruden's article:

Unlike some politicians faking an appreciation of guns and the Second Amendment, good ol’ Joe makes a persuasive case that in his heart he’s a good ol’ boy. He owns two shotguns and a Beretta handgun.

The advice he gave to “Kate” and to his wife, Jill, about when and how to use a shotgun, was actually not so good. If Mrs. Biden hears a bad guy in the woods outside their home, he told her, “fire two blasts outside the house.” Firing inside the house is not a good idea unless you mean really serious business.

The veep and his missus aren’t likely to hear anything suspicious in the backyard, either at the official residence on Massachusetts Avenue or at their own house in Delaware. The Secret Service patrols around the properties are ample and adequate. The peril in firing a Beretta off the porch in Washington is that she might hit a passing car, bicyclist or even the pope’s ambassador at the Vatican Embassy across the street.

Pruden is at a level of jackass exceeded only by Plugsy.

Anyone with even a modicum of the training so vociferously advocated by the anti-gunners knows that firing blind, without a defined threat of death or grievous harm (ability, opportunity, jeopardy) to the person, will end up with a trip to the pokey.

Absolutely indefensible.

Maybe, but some people prefer different choices.

At average self defense ranges that shot pattern isn't as big as you might think, you CAN miss with a shotgun.
