Gov. Dannel Malloy, together with Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, released a gun violence prevention proposal that they said will make Connecticut a safer place to be.
"Two months ago, our state became the center of a national debate after a tragedy we never imagined could happen here," Malloy said in a statement. "The horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School brought home the fact that we are not immune to problems that face the nation at large, that we can never become complacent in our effort to ensure the safety of our residents."
The proposal outlines five primary areas where he said the state can strengthen gun control laws, including:
-Making background checks universal and comprehensive.
-Banning large-capacity magazines.
-Strengthening the assault weapons ban.
-Promoting safer gun storage.
-Improving enforcement of existing laws.
"We have changed," Malloy said in a statement. "And I believe it is now time for our laws to do the same."
Malloy said he's been asking the same questions ordinary citizens have been asking themselves in the weeks and months since 20 children and six adults were shot and killed inside Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.
"Why is the gun used at Sandy Hook not classified as an assault weapon under today's law? Why are background checks required when someone buys a gun in a store, but not when they buy it privately or at a gun show? Why is there no limit on the size of a magazine that can be used in a semiautomatic weapon? These are questions we can answer now," he said in a statement.
Malloy stressed that he has a great deal of respect for the Second Amendment and believes everyone has the fundamental right to bear arms in the United States.

“It’s about the economy, stupid.”
The man is a moron.
Anyone see the sandy hook .....uh.......back lot video yet?
Connecticut has no interest in protecting the public from the mentally sick perps?? my, my
Malloy should ban cigarettes while he’s at it.
Here is a new thread featuring a new essay and YouTube video titled “Democide: Socialism, Tyranny, Guns and Freedom.” The video has had 12,000 views in the first two days. I helped to produce the video. It’s an effort to lift the debate from Newtown “small ball” to the big leagues of state democide, where these efforts at “reasonable and commonsense” gun control laws always lead to death by the million in the end.
“And I believe it is now time for our laws to do the same.”
Well Mr. Malloy, there are some that are beginning to think that it might be near time to start hanging those that attempt to destroy our constitution..... legally and after all due process, of course.
Steal my television, my furniture and all of my toys, and you will have made me quite angry, but I will buy new.
Steal my Freedoms, Liberty and the very soul of my country and you drive me to want to see justice in ways that you do not want to even imagine.
If you are so hell bent on changing our constitution, then do it right... or expect a fight.
If only we had leaders that would seek justice at every turn.
Colt Firearms,IIRC,is headquartered in Connecticut.Perhaps they’d rather be somewhere where they’d be more welcome...Georgia,Tennessee or Texas for example.Same goes for Smith & Wesson in Massachusetts.
Looking forward to checking it out. Thank, TM!
I missed your post.... OUTSTANDING video.
So is Ruger.
Even his blood brutha’ O’Malley down in Maryland was finally persuaded that nothing’s going to get past the legislature unless it goes after the nutcases ~ USING a law modeled on the Virginia statute that addresses that problem.
Wow, THOSE are some original ideas!! /s
“Two months ago, our state became the center of a national debate after a tragedy we never imagined could happen here,...”
Because socialists worship the god of government and they cannot imagine that anyone would break that god’s sacred laws. Thus, they are slackjawed and clueless as to how the previous law failed to prevent this evil act. They fully expect that the new law will work better, which of course it cannot because law cannot prevent evil, any more than a Constitution cannot prevent people from proposing to violate it.
