For the past 10 months, the 19-member Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection has been reviewing Florida Statute 776, also known as the stand your ground law, which defines justifiable use of force. On Friday, the task force released its final report, concluding that the law is good and should not be overturned.
The Task Force, led by Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, held public meetings in Tallahassee, Longwood, Arcadia, West Palm Beach, Cutler Bay, Jacksonville and Pensacola. Aided by thousands of comments from the public and from law enforcement experts, the panel concluded that Floridians have the right to defend themselves, the right to stand their ground when attacked, and the right to protect themselves and their families from violence.

The Task Force concurs with the core belief that all persons, regardless of citizenship status, have a right to feel safe and secure in our state. To that end, all persons who are conducting themselves in a lawful manner have a fundamental right to stand their ground and defend themselves from attack with proportionate force in every place they have a lawful right to be.
A Florida PING!
I didn’t expect this result.
I expected a cave.
This is absolutely outstanding.
I hope for a similar result for Zimmerman, liberal though he may be.
No man deserves what has been done to him.
It is known in biology and in Theology as the “Natural Law” wherein even animals defend themselves, their young and herd etc.
It`s high school biology, you morons!
I am thankful for this result but it is completely ridiculous that we need to be discussing this at all. We need to cast a suspicious and discerning eye on those who would want to argue against a person’s right to defend themselves from anyone or anything. Then we need to neutralize them.
Just because a person may, after weighing all viable options, choose to retreat from an attack, does not in any way diminish his right to stand their ground and defend themselves.
Indeed, a person should prefer to be as peaceful as possible, but liberals being liberals will always insist that preferences must be turned into requirements by use of government. But one size never fits all situations, except where unicorns traverse rainbows from one pot of gold to the other while passing Skittles and Iced Tea.
This philosophy needs to be applied nationwide, including to kids in school who punch the bully when the need arises.
