Skip to comments.Cuomo Call-Out: '10 Bullets to Kill a Deer' as Legal Advice
Posted on 02/23/2013 11:31:48 AM PST by Winged Hussar
The letter below challenges Governor Cuomo to repeat, in his capacity as an attorney and under color of legal advice, his implication that the Second Amendment applies only to sporting uses of firearms. Remington is advised to leave New York, and take its skilled workers and high-wage manufacturing jobs with it. It will be published by the American Thinker, and sent to Remington and the United Mine Workers, upon delivery to Mr. Cuomo via certified mail.
Dear Governor Cuomo,
...Your January State of the Union included the following words: "No one hunts with an assault rifle. No one needs 10 bullets to kill a deer." I agree with this; if a hunter cannot kill his meal humanely with one bullet, he shouldn't take the shot.
The Second Amendment does not, however, apply to hunting, and you know this because you went to law school. Your implication that the Second Amendment applies only to sporting applications of firearms is therefore a knowing, willful, and deliberate lie by omission. The same goes for your fellow "gun control" advocate, Barack Obama, and his photo-op with a shotgun and some clay pigeons.

LAPD would need a lot more than 10!
Screw the deer. Our founders would have been more concerned about how many bullets it would take to kill tyrants.
Same with NYPD. They only hit innocent bystanders.
Great article by American Thinker. I love the repeated references about Eliot Switzer...Eliot Spitzer aka Emperor’s Club VIP Client 9
“No one hunts with an assault rifle”.
Nope. I don’t even hunt anymore. I’ve been a vegetarian for 40 years (yes, 40). But if feral animals mess with me, they will be in a world of hurt.
Good show! Pull out as soon as you can.
Mrs. Cuomo’s little Andy could use a little tutoring on the history of the United States and the Bill or Rights. We have hunting and fishing regulations and licenses for hunting. We have the Second Amendment to provide Americans with the ability to defend themselves against an oppressive government. It’s not rocket science.
I read an article regarding 30+ companies refusing to sell to state and fed gov't who want to impose restrictions on citizens. In the comment section there was a question as to where the largest gun manufacturers are with all of this? (Remington, Smith and Wesson, Colt etc...)
I'm interested as to why they are not speaking up, leaving it to smaller manufacturers to stand their ground on behalf of the entire industry.
“No one hunts with an assault rifle. No one needs 10 bullets to kill a deer.”
BS. He’s either lying, ignorant or both. I choose both. I hear lots of talking heads saying the same thing. Although hunting has nothing to do with the second amendment, many people do hunt with Ar-15 pattern rifles.
So Mr. Ignorant, lying ass Governor, you can Kiss My Ass!
I’m sure it is more complex than this but my assumption is that most of the big boys are publicly held while the little guys are private. Once a company becomes public, all decisions basically boil down to the effect on the 6 month stock horizon.
BTW. Google “Helicopter Hog Hunt” for some action. Not really hunting, hogs are varmints and destroy millions in crops.
Warning: Carnage ensues.
When debating these issues, the leftists want you to discuss the lie rather than the liar. Cuomo knows that his mediot sycophants will continue to try and effect conventional wisdom and they would love the debate to shift towards “do you hunt with an AR.”
What really needs to be addressed is the liar. I ask people why is Coumo lying to you? Why does he need you disarmed? What does he plan on doing to you that he thinks will cause you to bring arms against him?
Properly understood the 2nd amendment is not about firearms at all, it is about resistance. If marshmallows were the only weapon available to the people in 1787 then marshmallows might have been mentioned. Until WE STOP arguing crime stats the debate will go on forever. Hunting, crime, plinking, etc., have NOTHING to do with the RIGHT to be armed, or the 2nd amendment.
If only we could harvest those little “bacon sprout” babies before they could do much harm. Hog Heaven! Same goes for aspiring young politicians.
I agree with your post (and your tag). Tree of Liberty...all that. It’s distressing to realize, particularly when listening to rat bastards like Cuomo, how few among our present government and the modern American political class give a fig for the founding principals. It’s equally distressing to realize how we the people allowed the collectivist snake to coil around us for so many years, and only now realize that we’re in a death struggle.
Here is a new Free Republic thread featuring a new essay and 5-minute YouTube video titled Democide: Socialism, Tyranny, Guns and Freedom. The video has had 16,000 views in the first two days. Now the commie rat bastards have discovered it, and they are NOT happy.
I wrote the essay and helped to produce the video. Its an effort to lift the debate from Newtown small ball to the big leagues of democide, where these efforts at reasonable and commonsense gun control laws always lead to death by the million in the end.
I believe an argument can be made that if gun manufacturers remain in NY, then they are tacitly approving of these tyrannical gun laws & supporting them with their tax dollars. Therefore, gun & ammo buyers need to boycott these complicit manufacturers.
Frankly, it is time that right thinking Americans boycott EVERYTHING from states like NY, CA, IL.
You have explained the problem properly. We can whine about welfare mothers with 8 kids, but the pressure for more government comes from the AARP also. Until we ALL admit that we are ALL addicted and that we ALL must relinquish our claim to government largesse.. We are doomed.
listen stooopid... nobody OWNS an "Assault Rifle"!!!
they own Sporting Rifle's and are used all the time to take Coydogs and Hogs and Pierre Dogs!
but what would a RAT like you know about what real Americans use guns for anyway???
bullet = life saver
more bullets = more chances to save life
cuomo needs his license pulled and his law school needs to lose acreditation.
“...Americans boycott EVERYTHING from states like NY, CA, IL.”
I can practically see Remington Arms from my house and I agree with you 100%.
The point is missed every time by a Democrat.
Speaking personally, this is erroneous upon its face. I know of several people who hunt with an 'assault rifle'. M-16's, M-14's, M-1 Garand's, BAR's, Black Powder muzzleloading rifles, flintlocks, and even Daisy BB rifles are all 'assault rifles' when used to 'assault' in some form. If you use a toy-rifle to beat someone over the head with, then that's an 'assault rifle'. A wooden mockup incapable of being anything but a carved bit of a stick is an 'assault rifle' in a strictly legal sense, even used as a club. Faith, even a Moderate Muslim's rifle is an 'assault rifle' at some point -generally while finished reloading.
("Moderate Muslim" = someone whose gun is out of bullets)
As for " 'needing' ten bullets to kill a deer", I can think of several individuals offhand who needed MORE than ten bullets in their attempts to bring their quarry down. Now, SHOULD be only ONE bullet necessary, and that's a strictly personal opinion, mind, but it really depends mostly upon the skills of the shooter when all's said and done. And a bit of luck, betimes.
Some people just run a good chance of starving if they had to rely upon their shooting skills to put food on the table, truth be told.
LOL! ‘Ay Janey, love the pic. Saved for a possible later collage -and did you see the one with the pink tutu?
Warning: Carnage ensues.
Yeah, but it's not "exploding varmints" style carnage; about the most you see is the little puffs of dust rise from the hogs' hide when the bullet strikes. You're right, it's not hunting in a traditional sense. It's a bigger version of what my grandfather referred to as a "rat-killing". Vermin elimination, plain and simple.
Oh, and try a YouTube search for "Aporkalypse Now", as well. Most of the aerial hog hunts utilize AR-15s, not only because they're a good tool for the job, but also due to the fact that they pose less accident risk to the aircraft than, say, a 12-gauge loaded with buckshot.
See Vimeo.com and a video called "Heli-Hoggin'", too... most entertaining.
Heck, I sure don’t have anything against exploding varmints. As a matter of fact, I’m all for it!
As a resident of the State of CA-CA, I would love to boycott spending on the necessities, if I could figure out how to buy food, gasoline, medication and shelter out of state.
I am retired, have a very modest mortgage and can't afford to move. I also can no longer afford to buy one or two firearms.
Any other bright ideas?
I have recently been in the market for a quality high-powered rifle. It came down to the Browning X-Bolt Hunter, Ruger M77, and one of the Remington 700 rifles. I recently eliminated the Remington 700 because of the company's refusal to confront New York State about its new gun law and announce moving its manufacturing facilities out of there.
