LIVE: NIGHTMARE FEARS GROW THAT ITALY MAY BE 'UNGOVERNABLE' AS BERLUSCONI SURGES

Rome, Italy We're live from the Casa dell'Architettura in Rome, where the center-left Partito Democratico is hosting its election day activities.
The situation is very tense, and the results have been a back-and-forth see saw, showing either a lead for the left (lead by Pier Luigi Bersani) and the right (lead by Silvio Berlusconi.
At the moment, things remain too close to call, but there are major concerns that Silvio Berluconi will win the Senate, causing the country to be essentially ungovernable.
Some headlines have even suggested that Italy may need to call another flash election.
This will give an ulcer to world markets, which are hoping that a stable left-center government will be formed, and continue on existing reform paths, which have helped bring national borrowing costs down.
It's been a wild evening.
The first wave of exit polls showed a clear and decisive win for Pier Luigi Bersani, the leftist candidate, and the favored candidate of world markets and Brussells
The market was surging on the news.
Then a second round of polls showed Berlusconi surging and doing well in the Senate
That created a huge drop in the Italian stock market, as a 4% rally caused things to go flat.

But since then another round of projetions is looking good for Bersani in the Senate, and he's leading by 3.
So the FTSE MIB is back up by 1%.

Here's a quick look at what it's like inside Bersani eleciton night HQ.

The DJIA is down 25 as I post.
I love destabilizing leftist governments. Go Berlusconi !
This is generally a consequence of proportional voting. You get politicians who are beholden to the party leadership, and not to the voters, and smaller parties can hold larger parties hostage to their idealogical demands without taking responsibility for the consequences of those idealogical demands.
Maybe he will bring in some of chicks too.
With over 50 ‘governments’ since WWII, just when, exactly, were they ‘governable’?.....
Hmm. Sounds like the EU propaganda machine is back in full swing ever since Berlusconi fell out of their favor. They want their appointed leader (Monti) to win, obviously.
Say what you want, blam, but at least Berlusconi will have those underage courtesans running on time.
Silvio wouldn’t be Silvio without the babes. ;-D
Sounds good.
You know we are screwed when even Italy can effect our economy.
Hasn’t Italy already had something like 600 National Elections since the end of WW II? So what’s one more?
Hmm, it sounds like the Orion Slave Girl and her fellow body-painted "femen" protesters may not have had the impact they were hoping for.
I will console her.
“With over 50 governments since WWII, just when, exactly, were they governable?.....”
I’ve spent a goo bit of time in Italy, and once one leaves Rome there is litle evidence that the country is governed other than by the local carabineri.
The evidence in Rome consists of limos pulling up to govt buildings, and soldiers with machine guns standing around looking bored. (Like the airport, come to think out it.)
They do have a saying, “When you see a soldier with a machine gun, try to look unimportant.”
Be careful, those lefty feminist witches have teeth down there.
