United we stand, divided we fall. Christians unite in truth and Spirit.

That sermon brought this hymn to mind ....

1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army shall He lead,
Till ev’ry foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.

2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The trumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict,
In this His glorious day:
Ye who are men, now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger,
And strength to strength oppose.

3. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you,
Ye dare not trust your own:
Put out the gospel armor,
Each piece put on with pray’r;
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.

4. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song:
To him who overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He, with the King of glory,
Shall reign eternally.

We work for God’s approval not man’s. Stand strong Pastor.

2 Timothy 2:15

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

In an earlier thread on this subject, I wrote that Tim Tebow missed a significant opportunity to educate the American public on his beliefs and how the sports media, or any media for that matter, does not speak for him.

Dr. Jeffress appears to have done this instead, though I find it interesting that at least in this clip he does not mention Tim Tebow by name. In fact, this comment appears to call out Tebow:

“I am grateful. I am grateful for men of God like these who are willing to stand up and act like men rather than wimping out when it gets a little controversial and an inconvenient thing to stand for the truth.”

I do not see why he felt the need to denigrate Jewish and Mormon beliefs. If there is a good reason for displaying such negativity toward peaceful beliefs, I am not seeing or hearing it.

You don’t need to tear down other houses to show how strong yours is.

By Todd Starnes

The congregation of the First Baptist Church of Dallas gave their pastor a standing ovation as he began to deliver the Sunday morning sermon – a sign of affirmation for Dr. Robert Jeffress – a man under siege from the national media and gay marriage activists.

Jeffress and the church have been accused of promoting hate speech and anti-Semitism simply for believing that marriage should be between one man and one woman and that salvation through Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven.

In the midst of the controversy, NFL quarterback Tim Tebow backed out of an upcoming speaking engagement at the church — allegedly over “new information” he received. It’s unclear what information to which Tebow was referring.

Ironically, Tebow is a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Fla. — a congregation that holds the same beliefs on marriage and salvation that the church in Dallas holds.

Tebow’s decision to bow out brought cheers and praise from national gay rights organizations as well as liberal journalists.

To a cheering audience of several thousand, Jeffress thanked the congregation for their support and vowed to continue preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ no matter the cost.

“It doesn't’t matter who you are or what you’ve done — you can be forgiven of your sins if you trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior,” he told the church. “That’s not a message of hate — that’s a message of hope.”

Jeffress said he experienced a moment of personal revival during the controversy of the past week.

As long as I am the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas — we are not going to kneel before the altar of political correctness and convenience,” he declared. “We’re going to stand up and boldly proclaim the grace of God and the truth of God without compromise — so help me God that is my commitment.”

Dr. Jeffress stands for Truth of Scripture and Christian faith. He is willing to state straightforward why he preaches Truth. There is a Day coming when the Mormons and Muslims will stand before the Judge of the Universe and explain why they did not respond to the Truth of Scripture.

“Jeffress and the church have been accused of promoting hate speech and anti-Semitism simply for believing that marriage should be between one man and one woman and that salvation through Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven...”

“Hate speech and anti-Semitism” are being used to try to belittle and hurt this pastor. It is not ‘hateful’ or anti-Semitic to share the Gospel with someone. Jesus Christ Himself, the Messiah, chose to come to earth as a Jew. And the Gospel was to go “first to the Jews” (Romans 1:6). It isn't hateful to preach and teach the truth according to God's word.

The line of attack on this Pastor is:...Target someone. Freeze it. Name call and label. Alinksky tactics coming from a sinful culture that don't want to believe they will be held accountable for their sins one day before God and possibly liberal theologians and Christians in name only.

While I hesitate to even place the Mormon name in the same sentence with muslim, I’m having a harder time seeing any Universal Judge coming down hard on any Jewish people.

I suspect those with good acts and souls won’t be doing any hard time.

What follows is an observation only.

Tim Tebow appears to be keeping his religious statements out of the political sphere. This appearance might have upset that apple cart, and as a professional athlete that may be something to avoid.

With all due respect, and humbly, some changes for your text are suggested:

Ye who that are men, now serve Him

(Fixed the word; there is to be no punctuation between "men" and "now")

The next the victor’s song:

(There is a comma between "next" and "the")

Put out on the gospel armor,

(fixed it)

Each piece put on with pray’r prayer;

(Can't hold a three-beat note on the consonant "r"; the musical requirement is that the pronuciation must be a dipthong to hold the note out-- the "e" must not be omitted.)

The next the victor’s song:

(A comma after "next" will make it grammatically correct, as in the original.)

He, with the King of glory,

(The commas here after "He" and after "glory" would make the overcomer coequal with the Master. That would be doctrinally very incorrect. Without the commas, "He" may be appropriately concurrently reigning with, but subordinate to--not coequal with--The King. These particular commas are not in the published versions as attributed to George Duffield.)

References:
1. "Favorite Hymns of Praise," Tabernacle Publishing Company, Wheaton, IL (1997) No. 357
2. "The Book Of Hymns -- Official Hymnal of thre United Methodist Church," The United Methodist Publishing House, Nashville, TN (1982) No. 248
3. "Book Of Worship For United States Forces," U. S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC (1974) No. 433

Your reference work may not agree with these, but these agree with each other and embody the original text per the corrections, as above.

But otherwise, in thought you have chosen an outstanding song for exhortation to spiritual battle!

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore ..." (Eph. 6:13,14a).

I don’t think Tebow need worry about that. Well, unless he takes a coaching job at FSU.

That doesn’t seem to bother non-entities like Chris Kluwe.

Left-wingers, immune from criticism by a pliant and friendly media, can say as they wish. Athletes with conservative and/or traditional beliefs find the going much more difficult.

It didn’t seem to stop Matt Birk, but it appears to have stopped Tim Tebow in his tracks.

I just googled the title & copied the whole thing off a hymn lyrics site ..... maybe I should have checked it against my actual hymnal for a better reference! From your last comments, you did get the gist of my message. :-)

While I hesitate to even place the Mormon name in the same sentence with muslim, I’m having a harder time seeing any Universal Judge coming down hard on any Jewish people.

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, than denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. (1 John 2:22,23)

Do "Jews" acknowledge that Jesus is the Christ? No.

I suspect those with good acts and souls won’t be doing any hard time.

No one is good, apart from God. (Matthew 19:17a) No one has kept the whole law. (James 2:10) Consequently, works are insufficient. There is no salvation and forgiveness of sins apart from Jesus Christ. He who trusts in his own works will come up short:

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth, and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them...And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which written in the books, according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast in the the lake of fire.(Revelation 20:11-15)

This is the fate of all unbelievers. But, God has graciously made a way for man to escape the punishment he deserves:

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcommeth (believeth on the Son--see 1 John 5:5) shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (Revelation 21:6,7)

The unbelieving will have a hard time indeed.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake with burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)

A good related article:

““What I have said about homosexuality going against God’s standard for human sexuality – and about Christ being the only provision for salvation – these are not radical ideas,” he said. “These have been a part of historic Christian faith for 2,000 years.”
