20 Most Miserable U.S. Cities to Live In
Forbes magazine released its dubious 2013 list of the most miserable cities in the United States of America. With the new list for the new year came a new city listed at the top of the list as Detroit, Michigan replaces last years most miserable city of Miami, Florida.
The magazine cites Detroits high unemployment, violent crimes, shrinking population, and its financial crisis as reasons for giving the city the title.
The list created by Forbes involves the scrutiny of the countrys largest urban areas which are then ranked via factors such as the citys crime rates, foreclosures, taxes, home prices, commute times, weather, and decreasing populations.
Here are the United States 20 Most Miserable Cities of 2013:
1. Detroit, Michigan
2. Flint, Michigan
3. Rockford, Illinois
4. Chicago, Illinois
5. Modesto, California
6. Vallejo, California
7. Warren, Michigan
8. Stockton, California

Oh hell ... just bring on the apocalypse (free of government bureaucrats) so we can begin rebuilding already.
If all these cities are run (ruined) by Democrats, then you have the answer as to why they are shitholes.
All democrat strongholds. Let’s blame Bush!
All democrat strongholds. Lets blame Bush!
It’s worse than that! They are minority-RAT run cities!
Woohoo! Ytown is almost off the list!
I’m now living in the largest town I’ve ever lived in (20,000). Even here drugs are a problem — meth. Our culture is trending down.
Let me guess, most if not all have had democrat leadership for several decades.
I didn’t see a single city/area run by anything but Progressives. In fact, the vast amount of misery resides in the Northeast, Upper Midwest and California!
How did Miami go from worst to off the list in one year? They must have some great city managers.
The article authors were probably too afraid to go look at Dearborn....?
bump for later
The New York Times will be calling offering you a job. Your comment is brilliant by their standards - you could be an elite journalist as early as tomorrow.
This list of cities is racist. Racist, I tell you!
Dear Uninformed: Before making a blanket stupid comment know that Dearborn, although infested in pockets is still the home of Ford Motor Company.
And lots, and lots and lots of businesses there.
“You ever pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?” Popeye Doyle
Not 20 but 200 or even 2000 cities.. or more..
The liberals are a fire burning down America..
With help from the Police and Firefighters.. Unions..
The Teachers Unions are the incendiaries that lit the fire..
The liberals are indeed a consuming fire.. well planned and executed..
The Arson of America is wondrous malfeasance..
it even has a GREAT mayor- Cory Booker, who is about as good a democrat as you could find.
it's a total hellhole. I mean, it is horrific.
Hard to believe that Memphis isn’t on that list.
Newark always sucked. Since I grew up in Carteret, that’s saying something.
Newark was hoping for a revitalization along the lines of Jersey City, but wasn’t able to expel the undesirables in the same way. As long as they have that albatross around their neck, they’ll never be anything.
Newark’s only hope is the growing Hispanic population; not ideal but certainly better. In their neighborhoods business is transacted and money changes hands (not just drugs; they have supermarkets where others couldn’t make a go of it and such). Booker is better than his predecessor but still a lib; at least he knows no amount of government money will ever make whites want to stay in the city spending money after dark.
Some cities on the list are dubious. Milwaukee is hardly a horrible city to live in. Even if it’s been run by Dems for decades if not for a century. And Rockford? Can somebody tell me what’s so horrible about Rockford? Other than it being run by Dems I’m assuming.
Why is St. Louis on the list while East St. Louis is not?
Some other really sad, miserable places:
I would place Frisco at number one.
