$200 For A Box of 22LR Ammo
AmmoLand ^ | Feb 26, 2013 | Major Van Harl USAF Ret

Have you tried to buy ammo in the past sixty days? The ability of find any handgun ammunition is almost impossible unless you are willing to pay as much as twice the normal price. Certain rifle calibers, such as .223 Remington and 308 Winchester are selling for a $1 to $2 a round.

A twenty round box of 223 Remington was selling for about $8 a box two months ago. Now some types of 223 Remington are selling for $35 a box of twenty. This is pure manmade panic buying. I have been writing for over five years about the volatility of ammo availability and price, now the chickens have come home to roost.

This is not a natural, disaster driven crisis that makes the public go out and desperately seek guns and ammo because the world is coming to an end. This is purely a politically driven Bravo Sierra (BS) manmade panic buying problem.

However what it is, is an excellent training tool for those who continue to sit on the fence of personal protection and support of the Constitution. The bad guys under the “Klingon Cloaking Devise” of elected politicians (primarily Democrats) are after your firearms and more importantly your Constitutional rights under the 2nd Amendment. You may believe it is someone else’s job to do all the heavy lifting in protecting you from evil.

If weakness is the basis you want to build your life and the safety of your family on so be it, but how dare you expect someone else to risk their life to rush in and save you because you refused to prepare.

Agreed. But I wasn’t speaking of the reloading. That is wise. I was only concerned about the fact that more than a few people know about the reloading enterprise.

“Couple that with the government purchases of more than TWO BILLION rounds and you have manufacturers like Federal and Remington who cannot keep up or even come close.”

Government contracts represent less than 5% of Remington’s business per a letter from a week or so ago. Nearly all of their ammo production is going to civilians.

According to my sources the industry is producing and distributing 1 billion rounds per week. The government is small potatoes. Actually, the govenment is very small potatoes.

Highway robbery! Cheaper Than Dirt had 500 round bricks for the bargain price of only $89.95 the other day.

“I’ve been searching for CCI Stingers since late November, to no avail. It’s like they stopped making them. I’d like to know who is finding any and where.”

Yep. I can find some .45 out there but no .22lr. Its crazy. I am almost to the point that I have more .45 than .22lr!

There are plenty of manufactures and retailers still selling at reasonable prices (compared to pre-panic buying). But you'll have to wait for it to be manufactured and stocked.

Interestingly, I've talked to very few people that are truly worried about ammo becoming unavailable due to changes in the law. People are buying up weapons and ammo because they are expecting an event that will require the items to be in their hands immediately, not available in 2-3 months. More ammo is being produced now than ever before in history. Where is it going? Not all to gougers, as that inventory is limited and they know they are in danger of losing big if they get caught holding it. Just as fast as the ammo is produced/imported, 60-70% of it is being packed away into the closets of red state Americans.

There are now millions of dispersed arsenals all over this country. Constitutionalists are practicing Swiss military tactics, and they don't even have to be instructed to do it.

Re going after ammunition. Lead story on the front page of today's San Jose Mercury News:

Field Poll: California voters favor gun controls over protecting Second Amendment rights

An overwhelming 83 percent of voters support providing more money for efforts to take guns away from convicted felons; 75 percent support requiring anyone buying ammunition to first get a permit and undergo a background check, none of which is required now; and 61 percent support putting higher taxes on ammunition, with proceeds going to violence prevention programs.

Just think how good you will feel every time you buy a box; you'll know that you are supporting leftist "violence prevention programs."

It's coming like a freight train at full throttle.

Not much I can do when alot of people say “I know a guy”.

But if someone wants my ammo... if they can get through the gate... down the long driveway where two dogs lay... through another gate behind which resides an ornery bull... across the yard without waking up a heavily armed and trained wife... then come into my shop where I sit and reload packing a small cannon on my hip, then they can have it.

Highway robbery! Cheaper Than Dirt had 500 round bricks for the bargain price of only $89.95 the other day.

The Walmart near had six boxes of .22lr two weeks ago (bought 3, could have bought all 6). It was Federal 325-round boxes and not copper jacketed (not sure why it wasn't the normal 550-rounders they usually carry). It was just over $15/box with taxes. The 550-rounders, when they get them, are just over $20/box with tax. They haven't jacked their prices, yet.

They have boxes of .22-250, .22short, .22winmag, .25-06, .300 winmag, .300wsm, 7mm and 6mm stuff. There's no handgun ammo at all. All the centerfire stuff is over $1/round. They don't seem to be selling this stuff very fast, as it's always on the shelf.

Maybe it's time to invest in a new caliber.

Just doing what's natural when self preservation plus an awareness of history and first hand experience with human nature meets the obamanation.

Then you're all set. No need to get defensive. I was speaking only for myself that having any number of people knowing about MY setup in such a way would make me uneasy...because...I do not have a gate...down a long driveway where two dogs lay by another gate behind which resides an ornery bull...across a yard where awaits a heavily armed and trained wife...adjacent to a shop where I sit and reload packing a small cannon on my hip.

As I said. You seem to be well set.      =;^)

The utility of 22LR is vastly under-rated. A quality 22LR round fired from a rifle at 100 feet will penetrate a gel block 12-15 inches, and it tumbles as it goes through, leaving a horrible wound. More and more people are learning this regarding self-defense.

Gun owners in MA town shout-down selectmen proposing gun confiscation

Even in Communist Massachusetts, people have had it with more gun-grabbing.

Surprise, surprise!!!

Most gun owners, especially those who own to protect their property, family and loved ones starting buying lots 'n lots of ammo the beginning of OBozo's 2nd year in office.

I'm comfortable...and more than 'just' safe in my current ammo and arms position.

OK, what’s the big deal with the 22lr shortage?

If you got your stash of military caliber rifle & pistol ammo, what’s the huge need for .22 rimfire, unless it’s to use for barter when SHTF? Real question.

I haven’t fired my Remington .22 rifle in years or my H&R revolver. Bigger fish to fry.

I found some within a few minutes. 50 for a little over $25. Do not go to the 1st site which pops up after a search. Genealogy has taught me how to search.

“This is not a society stocking up on arms and ammo because they fear confiscation, this is a society preparing for war.”

I agree. Here’s a couple of ads showing up in New York ‘Want Ad Digest’:

“Bushmaster 223, $3500; DPMS 223, $2700; Ruger Mini 30, $1200; Ruger Mini 14, $1200; Hi Point, 9mm, carbine, $800”

“Bushie - .223/5.56, Magpul triger guard, hogue grip, like new condition, $2850 Neg”

http://www.wantaddigest.com/view/forsale.asp?eclass=Firearms

Only a fool would spend this much money for something that is destined to be banned very soon.

People are foolishly arming themselves for war against the 0bama government.

I think the rimfire ammo situation is caused by the vast number of people out there who own a .22 rifle - and nothing else.
