ABC broadcast edits out Michelle Obama claim that Chicago teen was killed by an ‘automatic weapon’

In an interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts aired this morning, First Lady Michelle Obama recalled the tragic death of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton who was shot and killed in Chicago after performing during the President’s Inauguration celebration in Washington D.C.

“She was caught in the line of fire because some kids had some automatic weapons they didn’t need,” the First Lady explained. “I just don’t want to keep disappointing our kids in this country. I want them to know that we put them first.”

It is extremely unlikely that the murder weapon was an automatic handgun, an extremely rare occurrence, even in the streets of Chicago.

For the broadcast, ABC’s Good Morning America producers edited out the First Lady’s “automatic weapon” line.

Anybody surprised that the media changes things to promote their agenda?

From article:

… Chicago police reported, however, that Pendleton was shot by a man who “opened fire with a handgun before fleeing in a waiting car

interesting, ABC did not edit their web version of interview

This is a double edged report. Personally, I’m annoyed by politicians using tghe term ‘automatic’ or ‘semi-automatic’ when they don’t know what the heck they’re talking about. So ABC editing her comments might actually be a good thing, since the sheep in the country would otherwise take what Mrs. Obama says as factual.

Down the ol’ MSM memory hole.

Fiction meets reality. Welcome to the party, Comrade Westbrook. Where you been?

FYI:

In the book 1984 what is a memory hole?

Answer: In Nineteen Eighty-Four, a Memory Hole is a small chute in the wall that is used to carry documents down a warm current of air into an incinerator. These devices are found in the Ministry of Truth, where Outer Party members can destroy evidence of a different past using them. For example, a newspaper article that proves that the Party broke a promise will be destroyed using a Memory Hole. There is also a use of Doublethink in this device’s name, as it is used to destroy memories of the past.

Its important to note that this girl was killed with a handgun - not an ‘assault weapon’ of any time, semi-automatic or fully automatic.

Just an illegal handgun in Chicago...and no law against assault weapons is going to change that.

But it gets worse - one of the perps, Michael Ward (18 years old) was on probation for a weapons violation conviction. If the city fails to enforce current gun laws, why should others suffer new ones?

This young girl was killed by gang members. Yes, gang violence.

She would still be dead if there was an Di-Fi so-called assault weapons ban. She would not have been saved if high capacity magazines had been outlawed. She would still be dead if the gun show loophole had been closed earlier (See DOJ survey/interview of convicted criminals on where they get their firearms Tables 8 & 9).

In short all the things that politicians are trying to do in the name of reducing gun violence, would not have saved her. So, what are the politicians trying to do them?

So obviously the new legislation being proposed, is not about reducing gun violence, it is all about controlling guns and honest people.

It is time that the “common sense” talking points of the left are challenged and the “truth” is rubbed in their noses.

The next time a politician talks about gun control, they need to be asked and challenged on if what they want to happen will reduce gun violence. It is time to set up gang taskforces in Chicago and go after the gangs who killing people.

“This young girl was killed by gang members. Yes, gang violence.”

You’re right on.

Instead of tackling crime the politicians instead want to ban guns.

Many of these street gangs in Chicago are just proxies for the Mexican drug cartels, and organized crime is getting their weapons from numerous sources including military stockpiles from the civil wars in Latin America not so long ago.

Imposing further restrictions on law-abiding citizens against their Second Amendment rights isn’t going to do anything to curb street gang/organized crime violence among rival factions fighting for drug turf.

Frankly, the U.S. probably could dramatically reduced gun violence much more efficiently by legalizing drugs rather than banning guns.

“She was caught in the line of fire because some kids had some automatic weapons they didn’t need,” the First Lady explained.

Kids cant legally own any guns Moochelle. The proper age for rifle purchases is 18 and 21 for handguns. Of course the weapons used in most of the Chicago drive by killings are stolen from the kind of law abiding citizens that Moochelle and Barry Hussein want to restrict further.

I'm going to give ABC the benefit of the doubt - trying to be fair.

Maybe they realized that Michelle was trying to make a political point, knew that the claim was untrue, and edited out the claim on that basis. I know it's a stretch. But, because most 0bama supporters are minimally informed, this sound bite would have reinforced the idea in many of their minds that automatic weapons are bad - regardless of whether or not they are owned or used legally. Regardless of the motivation, it seems to me a good thing that the erroneous claim was edited out.

“It is extremely unlikely that the murder weapon was an automatic handgun, an extremely rare occurrence, even in the streets of Chicago.”

The semantics of firearms is getting silly. Today some firearm ‘experts’ get their panties in a wad if you happen to use a word THEY deem inappropriate.
Automatic is the word used for 85-90 years to describe a semi-auto handgun. 32acp, 45acp. Automatic Colt Pistol. It ain't 45sacp.
Just like the word “pistol” is now used to describe a semiauto, "revolver" to describe wheelguns The word pistol was used to describe all hand guns for well over a hundred years, whether they were a flintlock or percussion single shot or a revolver or a semiautomatic or a "Machine Pistol". (the name used for fully automatic pistols) And for God's sake never ever mistakenly say "clip" when you mean "magazine". In my opinion this is getting is silly. Bordering on stupid.

Gee, I thought the way to control gun violence was to lock away criminals for a long, long time. When the killer is caught, it will turn out that he, in the words of Jack Web, had a rap sheet as long as your arm. And in very case, he was treated laughably easily, encouraging him to believe that no matter what he did there would be no real consequences. A short stretch in prison is not a disruption of his life, except in the sense that it is a brief interlude of sobriety and routine in his otherwise nihilistic, chaotic and dissipate life.
