Were something akin to the Athens, Tn incident to occur today the governor would send the National Guard, the FBI anti-terrorism task force would arrive and both state and federal Departments of homeland Security would dispatch SWAT type units and an army of investigators. The persons who confronted the corrupt politicians would be indicted probably in both state and federal courts and be described as terrorists in all the news media. The Sec. of Homeland Security would use the event to underline how dangerous combat veterans are and demand general civilian disarmament which the President would emphatically support. Times change and not for the better.

What you say is undoubtedly true. We have far more layers of law enforcement than we had in 1946. The local officials would have called the governor’s office and without hours helicopters would have been arriving to put down the “riot.”

The likelihood of there being significant numbers of survivors, or indeed any survivors to indict is low.
