Chuck Hagel won confirmation Tuesday to become defense secretary over objections to his views on Middle East security and the administrations handling of an attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.
On a 58 to 41 vote, the Senate confirmed the former GOP senator as four Republicans joined 54 Democrats in approving Hagel, ending a nearly two-month battle that included an unprecedented filibuster against the nominee.
The four Republican senators voting in favor were Thad Cochran (Miss.), Mike Johanns (Neb.), Richard C. Shelby (Ala.) and Rand Paul (Ky.). All 41 no votes came from Republicans.
The vote marked a foreign policy victory for President Obama,

I’m really surprise he didn’t get it unanimously
I don’t get it.
It seems to me that those who voted for cloture voted for approval as well, no matter how they voted on the final vote.
Rand Paul is a Jew-hater, just like his father.
And Now We Know!
Sadly Cochran is up in 14. He has nothing to worry about as the Mississippi Tea Party is worthless
While it true that only a small number of the population is Jewish but they have enormous influence in our Media.
See: Harvey Weinstein has Michelle Obama award best picture Oscar 2013
So Rand Paul is slippery. After Iran’s stated intentions to destroy us and our allies, there’s no excuse for allowing that nation to build and mount nuclear weapons.
Either someone had dirt on these people, a great job offer when they leave, they are idiots or all three.
I called Johannes letting him know what a disappointment he is. It did not matter, he is quiting.
Whatever. Not a dime’s worth of difference anymore between the two parties. So why even bother.
More prayers needed for Gods mercy.
Obama hates Jews. Hagel hates Jews. Now Israel is supposed to continue sitting back as Ahmadinejad finishes developing nuclear weapons and trust in the American government to protect them? I hope and pray that Netanyahu is smarter than that.
What could possibly go wrong?
I am very glad to not be in the Armed Services right now.
A frigging disaster.
Only 4 traitors? Shocking.
Cochran and Shelby are old bulls.
Johanns in an establishment wuss from the same state as Hagel.
And Jr. Paul. Of the Paulitinian Pauls, voting to confirm an Israel hater. I guess Jr. Paul did not fall from the tree. Can’t say I’m surprised.
Rand Paul noted yes? I can’t believe it.
There’s this crowd of libertarians who like to pretend they don’t hate jews
C’mon pubbies...ask me for money. Ask me for support. If we don’t vote pubbie we get rats, socialists, progressives, commies.
We get them if we do vote for you clowns!
Rand Paul...suck my nose. The entire pubbie party can suck my nose.
You don’t negotiate with people whose agenda is based on two steps forward, one step back!
Jackwagons one and all!
Congratulations, America. You have been had.

“Rand Paul is a Jew-hater, just like his father”.
And a military hater. His politics are 100% a carbon copy of the old man, but he had to tone it down to win the KY senate race. He still tries to fool people into thinking he’s not like the old man. BS. Rand Paul is Ron Paul Jr. He’s an isolationist who thinks the US causes all the world’s problems because of our meddling in other countries affairs.
I'm not. I'm DONE. The GOP is complaining about the impact of sequester....which is INSANE. Even THEY can't stomach any cuts.
I am also DONE having a discussion about "you can't split the vote...the dems will win "
GOOD. I'd rather get to the collapse faster than slower. It gives me time to rebuild this country while I can still have some living to do.
Rand must have believed some of the shoot his father blabbed about the Joos at the dinner table.
I guess they got the warning. Remember how many of them voted to confirm Kerry?
The military is now just a putrid Petri dish for social experimentation. The Joint Chiefs aren’t worth the powder to blow them up. Literally. There is no one left to protect the Constitution...not the military, not the politicians, and certainly not the voters.
A punk running the Pentagon. I guess it fits.
Both of my Senators voted against this traitor.
Was thinking about that last night. Before election, father-in-law asked me who I was voting for. He wanted a knee-jerk REPUBLICAN from me but I pretty much told him what you posted.
Quizical reaction from f-i-l.
Looks like he's the only cheese left standing alone among the young bucks we had high hopes for....Rand, Ryan among them.
I still have hopes for the young guy with the steely eyes and the funky haircut....mental block at the moment on his name.
Yeah. That one is messimg with my head.
Influential in the media like Matt Drudge, Andrew Breitbart, Mark Levin, Michael Savage, Michael Medved, Dennis Prager, David Horowitz?
Or maybe William F. Buckley’s partner Frank Meyer, or Ralph de Toledano? Murray Rothbard?
It’s hard to reason with Ron Paul’s cult of Jew-haters.
according to this he voted no on cloture, said he didn’t know how he was going to vote, then voted yes. Hopefully he will explain his vote as he hasn’t been for Hagel.
Its been so damn long since I've heard any good news coming from DC. Its really demoralizing.
Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can start on your recovery. So, look on the bright side... we, as a country, are going to be starting that recovery pretty soon now.
It’s good you don’t believe Paul voted for Hagel because he didn’t. The story at the top of the thread is WRONG.
Rand Paul did NOT vote for Hagel! Click Right Here.
That was the cloture vote. The actual vote on his nomination came later.
The U.S. just sent Israel a telegram: “Sorry, Israel; you’re on your own. Stop.”
Apparently, Paul was agin’ him before he was for him.
Rand Paul voted to confirm Hagel.
