Alabama City Considering Ordinance to Disarm Citizens During Natural Disasters (VIDEO)

An Alabama city is considering an ordinance that would allow law enforcement to disarm citizens who appear to be acting “unruly” during a natural disaster or statewide crisis.

Guntersville Mayor Leigh Dollar spoke to local news affiliate ABC 31 about the impetus behind what’s been described as the ‘emergency powers resolution.’

“We are not trying to infringe upon anyone constitutional rights whatsoever. It’s just to protect the workers working out there in a disaster,” Dollar said.

In April of 2011, the city was hit by tornadoes causing lawmakers to rethink the way in which power is delegated during a state of emergency.

Those who support the resolution believe that when exigent circumstances arise the acting mayor should be able to respond without having to consult the city council for a vote, included is the provision to permit police to confiscate weapons from “unruly” individuals.

Naturally, the bill faces strong opposition from gun owners.

ABC 31 asked Paul Landry, a gun owner and music teacher at Guntersville Music Academy, what he thought about the ordinance.

“Well, it seems like an infringement on the 2nd Amendment and that’s the biggest problem I have with it,” said Landry.

What’s fascinating though, as another local news affiliate WHNT News 19 pointed out, is that a state law written in 1955 already gives police the power to seize an individual’s weapon provided he/she is endangering the officer or presenting a threat to others. - See more at: http://www.guns.com/2013/02/26/alabama-city-considering-ordinance-to-disarm-citizens-during-natural-disasters-video/#sthash.ReVXxCHw.dpuf

...right now it does look like the next war is coming,

Sadly, I think you will be found to be correct. Obama and his owner want even the slightest excuse to start something. His new S.S., the National Security Force, will be a terror on our country.

Who will stand at the next Concord Bridge?

129 grains of 6.5X55 from a 29 inch barrel of a Swedish Mauser should do the trick as well. If not I still have some of the old 160 grain with and extremely long fmj round nose bullet.

They will penetrate a tree with a diameter of 4 feet with no problem.

I might have to use my 8X57 Mauser tho all I have is corrosive
196 grain fmj’s. The ammo is hot tho. Just a little more energy than the 30-06 with 150 grain pointed fmj.

I probably will not be able to join you at the bridge due to age and health but I will be innocently sitting on my front porch with a rifle and ammo nearby but concealed.

If there are more than 2 or 3 I will probably try to get as many as I can then hopefully make it out the back to an area which is difficult to approach. It there are only 1 or 2 I would make an attempt take them out and hide the bodies. Then again I would leave for a day or two. If no one comes and bothers my house I would go back to it to maybe repeat what happened again.

I was at one time the best shot in my gun club but have noticed my ability has declined a bit recently but still should be able to hit man sized targets as far as I can see them in these piney woods.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,

Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,

Here once the embattled farmers stood

And fired the shot heard round the world.

Guntersville is a magnet for upper income folks from Huntsville. Probably over the past decade....a high number of company executives who were forced into moving to Huntsville...actually bought homes in the Guntersville area. So, there’s probably 1k residents there...who aren’t from the region, or from any other Alabama region.

They start to worry about oddball things....like what happens after a tornado. And they really don’t want friends or neighbors driving around with weapons. I would imagine that this talk will last a week or two, and most of the regular voters will laugh so much about this....that the whole thing will be withdrawn and forgotten quickly.

Doesn't Alabama have state preemption that would bar such an ordinance from being enacted by a municipality? I thought they did, but if not, now is the time for the legislature to enact one or add to the one that exists.

No, he was playing a satirical Hitler. Mocking him in the movie. In the end, he caught Hollywood liberals and conservatives back then off guard. It pretty much finished off his career for him taking a stand against tyranny. It was literally the end of the movie. Just abruptly ended after that speech. Lot of controversy. Wiki has more information on it.

You are correct Yarddog. There is absolutely no way of avoiding it unless something changes. I don’t see that happening either. Also, you can do something. When the SHTF (Sh*t Hits The Fan). Fighting tryanny is not always pulling a trigger. It’s done in many ways. Find what works for you. For example: Native American Indians used Navajo for communications fight over intelligence. Granted, they also fought physically, but the communications was a fight also.
