Kentucky's junior U.S. Senator says the Republican Party must broaden its appeal to voters by toning down some of its rhetoric on social issues. Rand Paul also thinks the GOP too often presents itself as a party "eager to go to war."
Paul, a first-term Senator from Bowling Green and rumored 2016 Presidential candidate, spoke to more than 500 Cincinnati-area Republicans over the weekend.
Paul said if Republicans hope to rebound from recent electoral disappointments, the GOP must find new ways to reach out to voters who disagree with the party on hot-topic issues such as abortion and gay marriage.
Were going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party, Paul told the audience.
This isn't the first time Paul has spoken out on the need for the GOP to refashion its approach. He was recently quoted as saying Republicans must "evolve and adapt", or else face continued losses on election day.

The “So-Called” Conservative Rand Paul
Oh look, one of John Kerry’s 4 republican votes is advising the party on how to win elections.
Make that Chuck Hagel...
Playing nice gets you nowhere.
I think its time for all of our public servants to stop talking and get over the fantasy that they were sent to DC to negotiate what our positions are.
This is like saying my 1988 Wrangler needs a paint job when the frame is rusted through.
The problem is that EVERYONE knows it is a bluff. The GOP eventually capitulates on everything, every time.
FURP!!
Let’s see...
Yes to Hagel
Yes to social decay
Looks like ‘no’ to Rand Paul.
Thanks for the ping, SoCon.
They are just two sides of one big party. I fear nothing short of revolution will change things.
The republicans don’t need a facelift, they need a forklift to carry their sorry behinds out of office.
That goes for you too mr “ defer to the pos in chief” Paul.
He is correct, to a certain point. We have to demonstrate our beliefs and explain why they are our beliefs. Discipline is critical, especially in the microscope of the 24/7 media onslaught. We can win being pro-life, we can’t win when the discussion is about rape victims. The gay marriage issue is a very split issue, but we shouldn’t allow ourselves to be painted as anti-gay. We have to explain that individuals can do whatever they want, but we believe marriage is between and man and a woman. We should demonstrate that a gay couple can get all the legal rights of a straight couple in terms of visitation rights, etc.
Our margin for error to win the White House is tiny at this point. The electoral college is not our friend any longer. Californians have migrated to NV, CO, and other western states but continue to vote like Californians. Northeastern people are migrating to VA, NC, and FL, but voting like New Yorkers and Bostonians. We have to sweep the red states of 2004 to win.
I’ve always thought that there is something a little tutti fruiti about the way he talks.
Stick a fork in him....he’s DONE in my book! Bah!
Sounding more and more like his dad daily.
The same Rand Paul who said he’d not vote to confirm Hagel until he got the information he wanted about his past, and more info about Benghazi...and today voted for him without either one being done...because Obama won and has a right to have his nominees approved. If we forget this stuff he’s pulling, we might as well commit suicide. He is quickly morphing into his father on Iran, Israel, moral issues, etc.
Rand Paul, I am an anti-Semitic sot like my dad.............beleive me the Republican Party needs to accept every thing and everybody.
We need to abandon all standards and morals, then people will like us.

Okay, I'll bite. Assuming those are your beliefs, why are those your beliefs?
