Republicans Supporting Gay Marriage Write Supreme Court Amicus Brief

BY SHUSHANNAH WALSHE Feb. 26, 2013

The issue of same sex marriage is dividing the Republican Party as a group of more than 80 prominent members of the GOP ranging from Dick Cheney's daughter to four former governors have signed an amicus brief before the Supreme Court advocating for the legalization of gay marriage.

One of the signers confirmed for ABC News the existence of the brief signed by the Republicans and said it would be submitted to the United States Supreme Court this week. The deadline to submit briefs is Thursday.

The document, known as an amicus or "friend of the court" brief, is being submitted in support of a lawsuit aiming to strike down Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that passed in 2008 banning same sex marriage. The existence of the brief was first reported by the New York Times.

Republican elected leadership, like House Speaker John Boehner, as well as the platform, are staunchly against same sex marriage.

The American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the group who brought the California lawsuit challenging Prop 8, released a list of the signers today including Cheney's daughter Mary Cheney.

Signers included former congresswoman Mary Bono Mack of California, former presidential candidate Jon Huntsman and Meg Whitman, who supported Prop 8 when she ran for governor of California in 2010.

Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida, Richard Hanna of New York and former GOP national chairman Ken Mehlman also signed. In addition, three former Massachusetts governors -- William Weld, Jane Swift, and Paul Cellucci -- along with former New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman are signers. The list also includes Republican attorney and Romney senior adviser Ben Ginsberg and other high profile GOP leaders, strategists, consultants, and staffers.

Marriage has a special meaning. People may try to make it work between two men, two women, two women and a man or two men and a woman or two men who became two women or two women who became two men but it really isn't the same and it will never be the same regardless of all of the efforts in the world to make it so. If two men can be said to be 'married' then someone is going to have to come up with another word to describe the very special relationship that exists between a man and a woman who would otherwise be 'married.'

The list is a “who’s who” of liberal scum who only masquerade as Republicans for political convenience.
What a yawner.

I've been saying that for years, humans will still need a word to describe the real marriage of the 99.9% of humans, so if "marriage" no longer serves a purpose in conversation, then we will have to come up with a new one for everyday conversation.

Ahhh, to be gay again, to regain the joy of youth, to feel the summer breeze as though for the first time.

Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida, Richard Hanna of New York, why would a hispanic Republican support Homosexual marriage?

Surprised w Ros-Lehtinen supporting this. She is a good conservative outside of supporting Illegal Alien Amnesty issue...she is even tough on Communist China (voted against expanding Free Trade w Comm China, voted against NAFTA). Marco Rubio started out as one of her aides

Only TWO of these are current, ELECTED Republicans.

Now we know this is a push to make it appear most Republicans think we must be forced to endorses sodomy. We do not.

Laura Bush wisely bowed out.

Ileana should, too.

The posting of this story made news and even Rush brought it up. But what nobody is bringing but this reaction to DOMA as well as social acceptance of deviancy. Including Rand Paul’s address and then has vote on the NB nut case. But it explains why Roves RINOS and the GOPES are not touching this with a 10 foot pole .

...Does anybody remember what the Democrats did at their 2012 convention ??? First they eliminated any mention of the word GOD...and when they thought twice about doing that they reintroduced the resolution what happened ? They booed God..thrice..That resolution was rammed through just like the Affordable Health Care Act ...This is a wedge issue within the democrat party which was not exploited by Roves RINOS and GOPES during the 2012 debacle and Republicans still to this day.

Was that fact used in any of the material Rove’s RINOS spewed forth during the 2012 Romney or US senate races his group of GOPES (Government Ofthe People Elite Snobs) used on their hit list ? I like using that acronym because it rhymes with dopes.

Noooo ! They could have used that episode to point out how far to the left the democrat party has hyphenated into; Demo-Coms ...Instead well we don’t like Aikin ...He said what ? OMG OMG he’s unqualified ...If there was a chance he would have been burned at the stake by Rove’s RINOS and the so called “conservative “ talkies spouting Rove’s tripe.

The Aikin or O’Donnells response to a set up phoney issue had nothing to do with any thing that would ever occur in any legislation that would pass their respective desks had they been elected.

THE RESPONSE YOU DIDN’T HEAR WAS THIS “”While at their convention the Democrats were busy denying God . Aikin believes in something like the ten commandments. Including Thou shalt not steal and doesn’t believe that getting elected to office gives you a license to do steal ... Which his opponent seems to have done rather well since being in office. The same thing with Mourdock,O’Donnnell, etc, etc, etc.

That presentation could have been expanded to Reid, Pelosi, and the slew of Demo-Com pigs at the trough. Expanding their personal wealth at the expense of the US taxpayers.

Just trying to get some of the talkies to talk this up is like pulling teeth.

Got a gay “married” couple down here where I live. Two fat lesbians. They got “married”. They call it marriage, but everyone I know laughs at them.

Call it marriage if you like it will get no respect, just bad jokes and sniggers behind their backs.
