A California high school student staged an undercover video sting operation to catch a thief in the act of stealing money from kids' backpacks.

But to her surprise, the footage captured a teacher rummaging through students' belongings.

Linden High School sophomore Justine Betti decided to hide in the locker in hopes of busting the crook who has been plundering cash from book bags during gym class for the past year.

After all the students left the room, a teacher hung back, went through the kids' bags and took money, according to Betti. When the girl told her friends about it, nobody believed her

Determined to obtain definitive proof, the sophomore once again concealed herself inside a locker on February 13, this time armed with a cell phone camera to catch the teacher red-handed. A second camera was set up in another locker.

She did not have to wait long: both video recordings made by Betti show a figured believed to be the educator opening several backpacks and methodically going through them.

'I didn't want to believe that she would do something like that because she was so nice, but then she did it,' Betti told KXTV. 'It was really scary. I was like "Oh my gosh, I can't believe I just got this on video."'

After watching the incriminating footage a couple of times, the amateur sleuth took the evidence to the school principal, who promised to investigate the allegations and asked her to delete the video.

...student should have gone right to the police after (making a copy of it). Report that the principle told her to erase it...or better yet go to the school board meeting and ask why the principle wanted the vid erased

Too late:

“By that point, however, Betti said she had already sent the footage to her father, and several of her friends who were in on the sting also shared it with others.”

Probably has something to do with union work rules.

..the “popular” teacher may or may not be charged...who cares how popular she is...IT’S WRONG!

hard times — who knows how long this has been going on - how many kids got in trouble by their parents for not having munch money or what ever and were blamed/accused for lying about the missing money...

but...as always - the socialist brick and mortar system of education wants it to go away...

Destruction of criminal evidence and obstruction of justice. Send this principal to jail too.

she was smart - send a copy of the vid to her dad. when the principal asked her to delete the vid the word ‘coverup’ came to mind. administrators don’t want to deal with incidents like this. teh police need to be notified as well.

I am not a lawyer but the principal telling the student to destroy evidence of a crime sounds like a felony.

Which is why the administration would prefer the issue be covered up. Student should have also asked around to see who had money/stuff missing that day, and see if they could identify their backpacks as among those being gone through.

The kid should be careful about retaliation from teacher's friends and fellow Obama supporters.

Not all kleptomaniacs are bad people, they are just thieves.

It is a compulsion. This woman perhaps needs treatment.

A lady who used to live behind me stole small thing all of the time. The local grocery store had an employee watch her each time she came in, if she visited your home she would steal something small. She wasn’t a bad lady just sick in that way. She would go to the graveyard and steal flowers. One day she went to the beauty palor and stole the reflectors off the driveway, The lady at the beauty parlor knew who did it and came down and took them back.

It’s funny how we treat compulsions, Homosexuals we now are expected to accept, Klepto’s we call thieves , and they are, and both are mental illness’s.

Because the video is evidence and the teacher will be warned but not prosecuted.

A word to the wise. Before you turn over an incriminating video like this to any “authorities” make sure you first either publish or store it to the web. That way it can’t be confiscated and then its existance denied.
