Most cuts to education wouldn't take effect until the start of the next school year, though districts would likely begin warning employees of layoffs in March and April.
But cuts to the Impact Aid program for districts with many students who live on military bases and Indian lands would be effective immediately and the effects would begun being felt next week, Duncan said. The funding could be restored if sequestration is fixed in the coming weeks, he said.

Dems have put themselves in a position where they are going to have to hurt people.
Either they hurt people so they have “victims” to trot out. Or they’re exposed as the “chicken littles” that they are.
It’s time to cut back on school spending.
Building Taj Mahal schools and expensive office buildings for overstaffed executives. Take away some of the computers and star teaching kids to memorize their multiplication tables and learn to count and read and write.
It’s time to go back to basics. We have already seen that the new way is producing uneducated graduates.
