The White House repeatedly asked Ben Carson for his speech before the rising Republican star criticized President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast earlier this month.

Carson, a prominent neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins University, declined to do so, noting that he doesn’t put his speeches down on paper beforehand.

Dr. Carson is a hero, in my book. Imagine taking a risk by merely telling the truth in America. Uh oh. How tragic.

This notion that somehow it's not acceptable for the right to have a leading figure who's white, male and outspoken is disturbing, however. Where are they? Where are the white Dr. Carsons? Do we now allow only minorities/females to speak their mind because no one can refute them for fear of appearing 'racist' or 'sexist'? Imagine if Dr. Carson was white. His gentle but confrontational speech would've been HEADLINE NEWS.. A SHOCKER! If Dr. Carson were white, the media would STILL be trashing him as 'racist' for having stood up to 0bama.

I was astounded when I watched the speech. One of my thoughts was that the powers that be surely did not expect to hear what they did. Had they known in advance, I am sure they would have made sure that the invitation for Dr. Carson to speak was cancelled. Obama surely squirmed in his seat the whole time.

Obama was diminished in the presence of this great and brilliant man who spoke the truth.
