Torontos Intellectually Superior Downtown Liberals (IDL, the s is silent) are in a really bad mood these days as they come to grips with the thrashing theyve received from Rob Ford, the 300-pound mayor they consider unworthy to run the city they call home, and who theyve been trying to get rid of ever since he won his job in a democratic election two years ago.
Three times theyve tried to oust him four if you count the election itself and so far theyre 0-for-4. Even the Leafs are doing better than that this year. Emergency sessions have been called at 1 Yonge Street, home of the Toronto Star, where new strategies are being discussed in between group hugs and caramel macchiatos.
Unwilling to accept that maybe Ford has a right to the job, due to having won the most votes and all, theyre exploring new explanations for his success. Royson James, a Star columnist, described him after his victory this week as the all-time, undefeated champion of the courts a slippery eel of a politician coated in Teflon. See the point? Maybe the courts and the voters are blind to his failings, but The Star still knows Ford is unworthy. Its just that hes got some supernatural protection device, blinding lesser beings to his inadequacies. Why cant they see, of Lord? Why cant they see?

Rob Ford is the Tie Domi of Mayors.
It appears that Canadian voters are indeed quite a few IQ quantum levels above ours.
Kudos, Canada. Just wait a few years, please invade us, and we give you full permission to take every lib you can find - and do what you will with them.
No history of slavery (the gift that keeps on giving) and no common border with a Third World country (ditto).Other than that the two countries are surprisingly similar (except, perhaps, for Quebec).

Don’t we have one of those in every major city here in the States? Like a must-have club or something.
Umm, unfortunately, no. Steven Harper, our Prime Minister, has the federal government on target for a balanced budget in a few years. Read the sentence again. We have the most conservative government in the world. Canada is blessed with oil reserves 12 times that of Saudi Arabia. We have a strong economy, a strong banking system and a neighbor who would not let any other country mess with us. Harper's approval rating is 45%. Explain that one to me.
With that kind of approval rating, the Tories would be returned to office with an even larger majority.
Harper’s job approval rating isn’t higher because Quebec doesn’t like him but he gets a thumbs-up in the Ontario 904. As long the Tories sweep Ontario, they should be able to form majority governments in Canada.
I know, but it still galls me. Canadians have no idea how lucky they are.
