Who then assumes control? I'm not up on Venezuelan politics. Any way to kick the commies out?

Maybe we can send Carter down to assure an honest election </sarc>

As Rush said about Rick James yesterday, “He’s on the wrong side of the grass.”

said that since last December 30 Chávez was declared brain dead in Cuba

So he’ll still be able to vote multiple times in Philadelphia.

But can he legally be sworn in and inaugurated while brain dead? More electoral fraud may have been perpetrated on the Venezuelans earlier this year, when they let his hand-picked successor start Chavez’s term for him.

Venezuela Libre!

One must be rather careful on this issue.

Some of us "old dogs" can remember far back enough--back when Chavez assumed power--that it appeared he'd been ousted in a coup.

He disappeared himself, others jumped up to try to take control when it appeared he had lost power, and...GOTCHA! He reappeared himself and slapped the wannabees down, but hard.

It was a ruse, like a duck call, to see who would respond. It flushed his opposition out.

He's played that Most Dangerous Game once before. I would not be surprised at all if, in his final act, he did not play it again.

You know--for the sake of country and party. When you're a communist, it's all about the Party.

I'd sit quiet for a little while, but not too long, or the commies can cement their power during a managed transition period.

They can move quickly to prevent the power transfer, or wait to see if it's a ruse. Thank God we don't (yet) have to make tactical choices like this in the USA. Not yet.

I thought at the time that the picture of Chavez. lying in bed with a big grin on his face was either photo-shopped or very old. No one looks that healthy and happy in the last stages of cancer.

There's usually much confusion when Hispanic dictators are dying -- Franco, Castro, Chavez.

The higher-ups spend hours agonizing over whether to say "está muerto" or "es muerto."
