Has the Maryland General Assembly Lost its Legitimacy?

Are you getting the feeling that the Maryland General Assembly seems to have lost its grip on reality? Last year the Maryland Legislature decided that they would attempt to redefine the institution of marriage.

To attempt to redefine what God Himself has defined is to declare either that there is no God or that you are God. In either case, it is a foolish and dangerous thing to do. It is an indication of a reprobate mind.

Now this same group is attempting to repeal the God-given right to self defense. They are preparing legislation that would pretend to make criminals of Marylanders unless they submit to the infringement of the state in an area that the Second Amendment forbids.

This is pretended legislation. This is dangerous nonsense.

And, even if this nonsense might pass out of the legislature and be signed by the Governor, it won’t be law. It won’t be law because it can’t be law.

It can’t be law for two simple reasons, either one of which would be sufficient to make it a nullity.

First, it violates the Law of Nature and of Nature’s God that requires all men to provide for the defense of their God-given rights and the rights of their neighbor.

Secondly, it is a clear violation of the Constitution, which is the Supreme law of the land.

Please pray that the members of the Maryland Legislature recover a sense of propriety and lawfulness. Please pray that God would turn their hearts to Himself so that they would come to remember that they are not God, but that they are His Creatures and, therefore, subject to His authority.

MD is the state with the longest consecutive rat control of the legislature. I think the late 1910’s was the last time the GOP had power. They haven’t had any legitimacy for a long time.

Art. 6. That all persons invested with the Legislative or Executive powers of Government are the Trustees of the Public, and, as such, accountable for their conduct: Wherefore, whenever the ends of Government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the People may, and of right ought, to reform the old, or establish a new Government; the doctrine of non-resistance against arbitrary power and oppression is absurd, slavish and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.

Art. 17. That retrospective Laws, punishing acts committed before the existence of such Laws, and by them only declared criminal are oppressive, unjust and incompatible with liberty; wherefore, no ex post facto Law ought to be made; nor any retrospective oath or restriction be imposed, or required.

Art. 28. That a well regulated Militia is the proper and natural defence of a free Government.

I am so ashamed of my state that I refuse to fly the state flag outside of my house and business. I would love to get out of this welfare state but sadly cannot.Even if the legislature were “blown up”, the same radical left-wing lemmings would occupy the re-elected legislature. Three counties in the state because of demograhics, control all of the laws and legislature in this state. It is a shame and a pity but it has been this way since the 1980’s.

I had a dream last night that was unnerving. In the dream, I was praying the rosary, the Luminous Mysteries, and the second mystery is the Wedding at Cana.

As I watched the wedding progress with dancing and laughter and music, a voice said that Christ’s presence at that wedding, and the momentous event of this miracle, water into wine, was to affirm that the marriage of a man and a woman and their fruitfulness is sacred to God.

I think our PTB are going to insult God one too many times.

Has the Maryland General Assembly Lost its Legitimacy?

James Wilson said it best-

Government, in my humble opinion, should be formed to secure and to enlarge the exercise of the natural rights of its members; and every government, which has not this in view, as its principal object, is not a government of the legitimate kind.
Lectures on Law, 1791

For some strange reason (I needed the job) I moved my family here three years ago. I knew it was bad but I could not have imagined the absolute disdain this legislature has for the people. I live in Harford County so I am for the most part among sane people but work in Baltimore.

I enjoy listening to Mr. Preoutka’s radio commentaries and wish the boneheads in the General Asylum would actually read their Constitution

Last year the Maryland Legislature decided that they would attempt to redefine the institution of marriage.

Here's the problem we have: that's an entirely legitimate use of their oversight.

So long as marriage is regulated by the state, participants and officiants are licensed by the state, each individual marriage is pre-approved by the state, then the state will have (even must have) the authority to define the institution as it sees fit. It's no longer a religious institution but a state institution occasionally administered by churches on behalf of that state.

The only way to avoid a changing definition is to remove marriage from the political sphere, and give up the state approval/administration/benefits. That won't be easy, and it won't be without cost, but if we want to preserve the definition we will need to do it.

If we're unwilling to pay that cost, then we better make sure we're able to win political battles over a political institution. Because that's exactly what it is.

You can also thank Reynolds v. Sims, the Supreme Court ruling that mandated that all legislative houses must represent people proportionately (1 man, 1 vote). Thus, the Maryland Senate cannot be divvied up along county lines or other fixed geographic boundaries. If the Senate had even representation by county, Maryland would probably be much less of a mess.
