Is Obama Losing His Media Allies Over The Sequester?
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 02/27/2013 | IBD Staff

Politics: Here's a pretty good sign that President Obama is losing the sequester fight: Even his best friends in the press are starting to chafe at the desperate and deceptive warnings coming from him and his administration.

At one of his countless anti-sequester events, Obama warned that the budget cuts will "gut critical investments," "weaken America's economic recovery" and "weaken our military readiness." He said tens of thousands of parents will scramble to find child care, and hundreds of thousands will "lose access to primary care and preventive care." [snip]

Even the media appear — incredibly — to be growing skeptical of the administration's horrifying predictions.

Case in point is CNN's Candy Crowley.

Second terms seem to bring bad luck to POTUS’s, certainly with Clinton and GWB.

We can pray that at least some of Os luck will run out, and that the GOP gets smarter and stop shooting themselves in the heads.

All King Barry needs to do is to invite them all to his next gala party in at the Sepia House.

And if that doesn’t work, he can have them beheaded.

Apparently it already has-Lanny Davis was in an article saying it happened to him once! He said this the other day. He said that you just don’t cross Woodward like that! He said he’d (Woodward)been around too long! He said that people could have differences with Woodward on interpretation of his facts, and that was fine, but Woodward was very factual! Davis said he’d been threatened by this White House before, too, and at that time, told them it better NOT happen again! He got a message back assuring him it wouldn’t. He says he thinks they’re back at it again!

How could Obama possibly be losing media allies? They created him - they are not going to abandon him. That would be like drowning your child.

Their turning on him now would be more like a second-term abortion.

Ubama has jumped the shark with his absurd "sky is falling" rhetoric over relatively miniscule cuts in spending increases, and even the ignorant chattering class has taken notice. But when Ubama takes his gambit to the level of threatening the safety and livelihood of regular American families in order to bolster his phony claims of calamity, even the most sycophantic Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms have to balk at continuing to cover for their African communist hero. I mean, how much credibility do those newsrooms have left anyway?

I can remember when the press was relatively in bed with Nixon. Never to the extent as with Obama, though. Watergate came, and that quickly changed.

I have a feeling things are going to deteriate.

I have to call BS on that.

Nixon came to national attention in the 1940s when he ran against Helen Gahagen. He claimed she was so far Left she had pink underwear. The press hated him after that.

Nixon made no friends in the press when Joe McCarthy was hunting for communists in the 1950s.

The press lambasted Nixon for a "slush fund" while he was Eisenhower's VP.

The press lambasted Nixon for his debate performance against JFK in 1960.

The hippies who marched against the Vietnam War were not Nixon supporters, and the press who covered those hippies were not Nixon supporters.

When exactly was the press in bed with Nixon? Watergate is when the press finally "got him" -- they had been trying for close to 30 years.

A GOP house that just passed a Senate VAWA that protects lesbo’s and illegals wont be impeaching anyone.

No, the press was never in bed with Nixon like they are in bed with Obama. I don’t believe I implied that.

However, the press feared Nixon just like the press fears Obama. Nixon had J. Edgar Hoover, the FCC, the IRS at his beck and call, and he did use them. When it became clear he was under siege, the tone of the media changed. Talk show guests were openly and blatantly critical, no longer fearing retribution.

Woodward has the creds to go against the flow. A lesser independent journalist would simply never work again on the national level.

I was in my 20s in the Nixon era, but I was paying attention.

We will have to agree to disagree on that. My recollection is that the press was out to get Nixon from about 1946 to 1973. They never liked him, they actively worked against him, and they were thrilled when Woodward & Bernstein finally accomplished the long-sought goal and ended Nixon's political career.

But if you recall it differently, that's your business.

You and I are in agreement and are talking about two different things.

I agree that the press never liked Nixon and they like Obama. Don’t we agree on that?

What I am saying is that once it looked like Nixon was powerless and probably going down, the media lost their fear of what he could do to them and began “piling on” in a frenzy that was blatantly anti-Nixon in a way they never were before. I noticed this from watching Dick Cavette like tv talk shows.

What is it that we disagree on?

I agree with your recollections.

And let us not forget the media darling Alger Hiss, whom Nixon, as a committee member of the House Un-American Activities Committee, went after while the HUAC was under fire from the press and President Truman.

The press really got their long knives out for Nixon after taking down a man who helped start the United Nations, while being a Communist spy.
