Give Detroit to Mitt Romney
Slate ^ | Feb 28, 2013 | Davied Weigel

The reckoning has arrived in Detroit. Michigan has an aggressive emergency manager law that allows the government to take over failing cities rather than sending them into bankruptcy. [...]

[Mayor Dave] Bing wouldn’t directly reveal what the governor told him, but said the decision is what most have expected. He spoke in terms indicating that an emergency manager is indeed coming to Detroit.

Can I nominate someone?

It should be Reality Show, really really think about that, Romney may not be a total Conservative but it would put a face at least on Republicans, Hard Work and the ****ing mess the DNC and all their allies made of the city and it would show it was not the DNC and their minions that fixed it.

Margaret Thatcher is probably the only person with boots big enough to fix Detroit. It’s a shame she’s in such poor health.

Also, I like Guliani for this as well. He is the only mayor I can think of that turned a big city around.

I can’t think of a better person, especially give the situation. Most any alternative would be worse.

Of course he’s rich and wealthy (well deserved), and why do it? Being President is one thing; it is an historical opportunity. Being Mr. Fixit to the most broken major city does not sound all that fun.

Yeah, so he can cut up Detroit and sell the parts? I doubt he’ll get much financial gain from doing that.

Then he wouldn't do it. There's a reason it's called "capitalism."

George Romney ran to Saul Alinsky to save Detroit and it didn’t work out so well. A better team would be Forbes, Trump, and Giuliani.

Didn't he do the Olympics for no salary?

Romney only wanted to be president, I don’t think he cares about anything else when it comes to the gentiles.

Is it worth it?

The Olympics in Salt lake city was all related to the Mormon effort to make the Bishop president, that was not for nothing, Romney’s charity has always been related to Mormons with a little related to political campaigning.

You are probably right given the state and federal regulations that would be insisted upon....not to mention the union demands & lawsuits which would be filed by every known and unknown interest group.

If Detroit is to be "fixed" the "fixer" would have to be free of all the aforementioned.

Yep, you are right......Detroit cannot be fixed.

In 1629, King Charles I of England granted Sir Robert Heath (the attorney general) the southern half of the English land in the New World between 36 degrees and 31 degrees north latitude from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The land was named “Province of Carolina” or land of Charles.

This area included what is now known as North Carolina and South Carolina. Sir Robert’s attempts at settlement failed and in 1645, during the English Civil War, he was stripped of all of his possessions as a Royalist supporter of the King. The first permanent settlers in Carolina came from Virginia. In 1663, eight members of the English nobility received a charter from King Charles II to establish the colony of Carolina.

New York’s financial situation was fixed by the state appointing an all-powerful comptroller back in the 70’s. Well before Guiliani’s time. Not a dollar was allowed to be spent without his permission.

Detroit can’t be fixed by anybody.

Sure it can. Give me enough gasoline to douse the city and one match. That's all that's needed to fix the Detroit problem.
