Government workers anxious about furloughs, sequestration, effects of bashing (Pity party...)
Washington Post ^ | 2/28/13 | Marc Fisher

-snip-

For most of their lives, federal workers in Mantua say, having “United States Treasury” atop their paycheck meant security, pride and a sense of mission. Things change: Now it means having to defend yourself against arguments, from strangers and even from your own relatives, that you’re an overpaid and underworked leech.

I am with you. It is sad to see so many dumbarses on FR siding with the destruction of the most conservative workforce there is - the military, Federal DOD workers, and DOD contractors. These are the areas that will be the most seriously affected. Why hurt our military when there are so many other Federal Gov. non-military areas that need to be cut. Hurting our military should only be the arena of the leftist scum in this country.

I agree with you that we need to adequately fund our Defense Department and that you can’t cut and rehire DoD workers like you can other workers. But we have a real problem with spending. The Democrats are not agreeing to 3% cuts in other departments. They have refused to engage on entitlement reform. Their only answer is a massive tax hike that will cripple the economy. $1 trillion + deficits each year are a grave national threat that has to be dealt with. With the Democrats in power and the media covering for them, there is no way to cut $85 billion with sensible entitlement reforms and cuts in other areas. So we are left with this. It is better that continuing on the way we have been going.

You could cut over 90% of the federal budget and not touch a single employee.

That, BTW, is the problem ~ it is recurring. We have presidents and their enablers who imagine that they can play with the bureaucrats 10 minutes and the public will think they've done something useful or meaningful.

I simply don't want any Freepers to be deluded by the smoke and mirrors.

" Then, there’s “per pay period,” another attempt to mislead. “Per week” is actually easier to type and has the benefit of accuracy."

Well, not exactly. "Pay period" is more accurate. There are 26 pay periods per year, in two week intervals, when GS employees are paid. So "pay week" is not correct.

I’ve paid many times your husband’s salary in taxes over my long career. Your attitude is typical of people who rely on my taxes for their income.

We sent them thousands of ideas of where to cut costs. They picked one or two. Cutting hours looks good on paper and is the easiest to implement.

Actually cutting costs takes some brains and balls which no one above the local management level seems to have. Just look at how much was wasted buy green fuel for the Navy.

Yes, and they need to turn their attention to the people who seem to be exempt from this sequester. Why is it that the President and his staff or Congress and their staff are not part of this?

I’m not going to complain about this whole thing. We have been preparing for a rainy day for a long time, so we will be just fine.

You aren’t the only person who pays taxes around here, so get off your high horse.

Why would they say weekly?

Because they want apples-to-apples comparison with the private sector, many of whom are paid weekly. The private sector working stiffs are the ones they're trying to impress with their whining.

Exactly. And you should be thanking them for paying your bills, too.

Preparing for a rainy day is a good way to live. The trickle down effect of the sequester will have more consequences than most people think. So called ‘savings’ is going to be very costly for many of those in the private sector. Spending less to starve the beast will starve others in the process.

It will also be beneficial to a great many more in the private sector -- the ones from whom an additional US$85B will not be confiscated. Let's not forget, Fedzilla can't pay Peter unless he first takes from Paul.

There is now a line on the SS application form that asks how much money you and/or spouse have in your 401K or IRA accounts. I am wondering when this line was added and whether I have to answer the question, since my name is not on the account? I am planning to answer, that I don’t know.

Dont sweat it, Kerry....your husband, myself, and numerous others on this board have more than paid others’ bills for a long time with military service.....2%ers....not like I never bought anything produced in the private sector while everyone was “paying my bills and salary”

The solution we are learning, is to not rely upon the feds for anything, because they are going to hold you hostage at some point, to make themselves richer.

Like States are learning, don’t accept anything from the federal government.
