Online information storage firm Evernote has asked all users to reset their passwords, following a security breach by hackers.
The California-based company, which allows people to store and organize personal data on an external server, is thought to have about 50 million users.
It said user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords were accessed.
But it insisted there was “no evidence” that payment details or stored content was accessed, changed or lost. …

When you have an entire country that is working hard to bust into the encryption systems of the free world, holding the belief that your hard drive is secure is IMO simply idiotic.
The Chinese have the capacity to put a team of hackers on your password until they break it. Then they can put another team whose only desire is to infect your database with numerous hidden viruses.
Anyone who thinks that a ten, twelve or twenty letter password that gets changed quarterly is sufficiently secure isn’t thinking. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if our own government isn’t hacking some of these accounts. trusting strangers with your financial security isn’t being smart IMO.
The U.S. should cut every fiber cable running to China, Syria, Iran, Libya, Egypt and all of the other third world hellholes that hate us.
What would that leave, Canada and Isreal?

Parts of Canada and parts of the US could make a real nice country. Israel, I’m not sure about. They are too socialist for me. Just my opinion.

And the very reason I have always considered online backup services high risk. I’d rather backup to an external hard drive which I do. The hackers are very dedicated and determined with OCD type personalities which I understand very well as an investigator. Need some of that talent in our arsenal. Back in the 90’s I used to attend some 2600 meetings and met some decent hackers. They are definitely a different breed; often paranoid and very eccentric but definitely persistent and up for a challenge. Conservatives could use some of these types of friends.
“In the cloud” could be on the GOVERNMENT’S computer. No thanks!
