CT:Gun buy-back participant: 'We're all nice guys turning in guns we don't want'

But along with many who stood in the cold waiting their turn, he was skeptical that the program would get guns out of the hands of criminals.

“This is a little bit of a farce,’’ he said, as he pointed out that all of the dozen or so people in line were older, including two men who were wearing retired Navy caps.

“Look at us,” he said. “There’s not a criminal here. We’re all nice guys turning in guns we don’t want.”

Barry Weiner, the head of the city’s Water & Water Pollution Control Authority, was there to turn in a .22-caliber handgun he once used for target shooting. He agreed that the program seems more like a feel-good notion than an effective way to battle crime.

“This is foolish,’’ he said. “Nobody here will do anything illegal with these guns. The people who need to get rid of their guns aren’t going to bring them here.”

Another man, a gun collector from Baltic who did not want to give his name, brought an AK-47 rifle he had purchased legally in 1993, a year before the ban on assault-style weapons. He said he was turning it in because he “did not want to be a criminal.”

“I did all the paperwork ... I was approved by the state police ... but now it’s illegal for me to own it,’’ he said.

The weapon is worth about $2,000, he said, but he has no legal way of selling it. Another gun owner standing near him joked that he would give him a trip to Hawaii for the gun.

The Baltic man said he would take the gift card and buy more guns.

Connecticut is a state where the police actively discourage private sales. It is one of the few places where people have not shown up offering cash for these nice old guns.

This is beyond nauseating, on several different levels.

Participating in a gun buy back because you believe that the criminals have too many guns, is like having yourself castrated because you believe the neighbors have too many kids.

“This is a little bit of a farce,’’ he said

Gee, d'ya think?

(Another brilliant move by the elected officials - NOT.)

Do they accept pictures of guns, or fingers pointed as guns?

Lenin aptly named these people: “Useful Idiots.”. These people have to be out of their minds to wilfully divest themselves of the only thing that can protect themselves and their families from criminals and a tyrannical U.S. Government that is totally out of control and bent upon total control of the American citizen!

It has been stated by high government officials as fact: “You have a right to be stupid”!

A gun, if you respect it and follow the safety rules, can be a lot of fun. If you act carelessly, someone could get hurt.
Guns are like cars - only cars are deadlier. They kill more people than guns.

Dunno.
Sometimes when you’re young and short of cash, you might buy some real crap.
I have some pistols I’d turn in for $50 - that is worth more than I’d get in a pawnshop and I don’t dislike anybody enough to sell these guns like these to them.

The idiot with the AK could sell it online to an out of State Buyer. You just Have to use an FFL to ship it out.

What are they smoking up there?

If they had a Gun Buyback that paid decently, I have an old .22 Rifle that I would let go for a few Hundred bucks.

My other Guns wouldn’t miss it. The proceeds would provide some nice new ammunition to feed them. Trickle down you know.

I think these “turn in your guns” operations are just a way to supply cops with throw-downs.

This moron can’t take his supposedly-illegal AK-type rifle to another state and sell it?

Apparently Barry Wiener hasn’t heard of the old adage, “Nice guys finish last.”

I lived in CT years ago. I can’t recognize the state now. It is headed for California at light speed, with sanctuary policies for illegal aliens, skyrocketing welfare dependency and radical labor unions stealing elections (Malloys was stolen in Bridgeport with fake “votes” in Hefty bags). And of course - the insanity over guns, in a state once so famous across the nation for production of quality firearms that won the West. Disgusting and tragic.

"This moron can’t take his supposedly-illegal AK-type rifle to another state and sell it?"

I didn't know the CT bills had been signed by the governor. I have no doubt they will, but he would have time after the bill is signed into law to comply. Either something is missing from the story -- or the guy really is the kind of idiot who lights cigars with $100 bills.

I still live in Ct, but not for much longer.

Your description of Ct’s steep decline is depressingly true. Democrats bought permanent power with the income tax.
