'Immortalised in the film The Great Escape, the mass breakout from PoW camp Stalag Luft III on March 24-25, 1944, was swiftly followed by terrible retribution the cold-blooded murder of 50 recaptured prisoners, on Hitlers direct orders.'

Why God permitted satan to act through the Nazis I will never understand. God grant me wisdom in Jesus’ name
The book would be an interesting read.
I’m curious as to what happened in real life corresponding to the movie’s portrayal of makeshift pants used to release tunnel dirt...
And how do you explain our first Muslim Terrorist President who also has plans for killing Americans as he tightens the noose around our necks?
Good folks turned their backs and did nothing. “let himhave Poland, that will pacify him”.
Is it only me, or is this Daily Mail article badly written and confusing because of this?
Bad writing is hard to quantify.
Contrast this with how German prisoners were treated in the US. They knew they had it so good, very, very few even tried to escape. After the war many stayed or returned later to immigrate.
Same here, and this was a nation bombed and starved by them. German prisoners stayed in their thousands and married local women.
One of the iconic sportsman in the UK in the 1940’s and 50’s, Bert Trautmann (soccer goalie), became a much loved national treasure (especially after he played an English soccer cup final with a broken neck).
True. Ironically the first shot was fired by a Rumanian, Georg Fleps.
the same. Why God is permitting this nation to be in the grip of evil is beyond me and I have asked for wisdom to understand.
RUmanian?. Dear oh dear. Should of course be rOmanian.
And the permittance leads to a reasonable question.....
We hunted the sonofabitchs down after the war and they were executed to a man. They have recently found another tunnel at the camp where this escape took place. The movie is really good but does stray from fact but it did get the story out to a larger audience who would otherwise never had known about the bravery of all those involved.
“Who, in their right mind Kevin, could possibly deny the twentieth century was entirely mine....All of it!” - The Devil’s Advocate
Because God grants man free will.
A Hollywood movie straying from the facts? Naaah, say it isn’t so.
“Bad writing is hard to quantify.”
Yep. One day I was trying to read a scientific report for work, and I could not understand it. I tried again a couple of days later. I figured it was over my head. Tried a third time, and realized that I wasn’t stupid, it was very badly written.
