LIBERTY, MO (KCTV) -

A bank robbery suspect is in a Kansas City hospital. He was shot while trying to hold up a bank in Trimble, MO. MOREAdditional Links

It all started shortly after 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Security Bank located on U.S. Highway 169 in Trimble.

First Security Bank is not a traditional bank where just anybody can walk in, so police said the suspect was most likely buzzed in before he pulled a gun and demanded cash. That's where things took an unusual turn.

Trimble Police Chief Larry Fish said a civilian inside the bank pulled out a gun and shot the would-be robber.

----------------------------cut-------------------------

Residents said Trimble is a small town and lots of people have guns and concealed carry licenses.

"He could have saved a lot of lives doing that," Patricia McWilliams said.

She said she's glad someone inside the bank was able to defend customers and staff.

"If not, he could have done worse. He could have hurt a lot more people or stolen a lot more money," McWilliams said.

Trimble is a small town and people who live there said they were surprised by all the action.

Horrible! Bank robbers have rights, too. Concealed carry is like the old west, shoot outs everywhere! Millions of children could have been killed!! ;-)

You mean this bank is not a gun-safe zone?

Just one armed teacher, one armed movie patron, one armed postal worker and there would be far less carnage and fewer incidents.

I don’t know about you, but I always top off my gas tank *before* I rob a bank. He drove 6 and a half miles and bought gas?

He is definitely in the running for a Darwin Award, if he gets another chance.

I guess in Obama’s economy he could not afford it until after.

Easy, it was a stolen car and he didn’t want to waste any more money on gas than it would take to get to his ‘stash’ vehicle.

He just miscalculated.

If he had a shotgun he could have fired 2 shots in the air and the bank patrons would have ‘froze’.

Of course if he didn’t calculate on the ceiling raining down on him that could be just as futile as shooting through the vault door.

I am glad we have a VP that gives such handy advice.

This has all the hallmarks of the work of Professor Moriarty. Only a criminal mastermind could have conceived or attempted to execute such as diabolic and clever plan! Quick Watson, the game’s afoot!

Our VP is a lawyer and probably much smarter than either of us. Now, if I discharged a shotgun into a door, I would be lucky not to be seriously injured by ricocheting shot and debris. But not Joe Biden. Why doesn’t he remind us that if someone threatens you with a shotgun, just plug it with your widdle finga and blam! the shooter’s face will be blackened with no consequences to you.

“Why doesn’t he remind us that if someone threatens you with a shotgun, just plug it with your widdle finga and blam! the shooter’s face will be blackened with no consequences to you.”

The robber’s face will then spin around to the back of his head. He will slowly reach up and drag it back around and tell you that you’re “dethpicable.”

Foster said. "... I suppose he didn't have an assault weapon, but I'm sure glad they caught him."

By definition, the robber DID have an assault weapon; the hero bank customer had a save-the-day weapon.

I am sure I missed the ‘sarc’ tag here BUT, we all know book smarts have absolutely nothing to do with being ‘smart’ in the ways of the world.
Biden was ‘smart’ enough to avoid joining the Military.
Of course, if he knew ANYTHING about weapons, he never would have made those two utterly ridiculous remarks.

OH YES, before you ‘lurkers and D apologists’ feel it necessary to ‘remind’ me of Cheney’s deferments, I had the same feelings of contempt for him ESPECIALLY after making a statement — to the effect — ‘I had better things to do than go to VN or join the Army’

Please. Please. Is any sarcasm tag ever necessary when talking about sloe gin Biden? Some background: (Warning: more irritating than listening to fingernails on a blackboard.)

Almost every statement in his response is a lie, with the possible exception of the name of his law school.

How horrible.
I’m sure this poor bank robber was just getting his life turned around.
He was making a rap album.
Went to church with his grandma once.

Now this...

The robber did not have any cash handy to buy gas Before the robbery.

When Ohio passed CCW,the lady at my credit union put that asinine sign on the door ,saying “I feel safer now!” ????

Oh,yes,...the credit union was robbed one afternoon last year.

Do you suppose bank robbers don’t care about the laws?!

Since he didn’t get anything in the robbery, where did the cash come from. See, lack of planning. I always use my last $60. bucks to top off my stolen ride before my next caper.

LOL.

If he was that smart, he probably would have gotten a job, rather than attempt to stick up a bank.

Teach kids - do a stick-up robbery and feed yourself once, get a government job and you steal enough money to feed yourself for life.

Maybe he didn’t have any money hence the robbery.

I remember reading in New York magazine about 20 years ago an article on bank robbery. They said that for every $1,100 stolen from a bank someone spends a year in jail. Even those days, not a great rate of return. Generally, banks try to discourage robberies by vigorous prosecution rather than shoot outs on the premises.

Bank robbery was never a lucrative field. A kid I went to high school with was killed about two years after graduation pulling a bank hold up. I suspect suicide by cop. He seemed like a normal kid, but we never know what demons someone is wrestling with. The bank across the street from where my wife works was held up about a month ago, the perp ran across the street into another bank, the cops were there in no time and arrested him. A 25 y.o. local man, apparently living with his parents, no job, no friends, no hope. A loser, but a sad case.

Willie Sutton ( a fellow one time resident of Queens) was one of the more successful bank robbers. He spent half his life in prison. He said the only reason he was ever caught was because an one of his accomplices blabbed, usually to a broad. Still he spent half his life in prison.
