"Student gets 3 day suspension after wrestling away gun"
FORT MYERS, Fla. - A 16-year-old Cypress Lake High School student, who wrestled a loaded revolver away from a teen threatening to shoot, is being punished.
The student grappled the gun away from the 15-year-old suspect on the bus ride home Tuesday after witnesses say he aimed the weapon point blank at another student and threatened to shoot him.
The student, who Fox 4 has agreed not to identify and distort his voice because he fears for his safety, says there's "no doubt" he saved a life by disarming the gunman. And for that he was suspended for three days.

The gunman was Quadryle Davis. He’s on the school football team. There is also a Tyrone Davis on the team.
Who said that the left wants to leave guns in the hands of violent criminals and take them away from honest, law-abiding non-violent citizens?

He is a truly evil person. He prevented another “Newtown” tragedy that could have been used to ban firearms.</sarc>
if I lived in the area, I’d create a medal for heroism, hold a big banquet, and present this medal to the kid.

Just another example of the absolute brain-deadness of those that run the government schools in the modern era.
A person who possesses a firearm by virtue of having taken it away from someone else who was using it to threaten another is equally guilty.
All this information is irrelevant. The real question is “How do we get the gunman back on the football team?”.
And I’d help ya with it. Kid well-deserves it. Looks like he’s going to ‘pay a price’ for doing a heroic act, though.

Suspending all students involved is done automatically for very good reasons This is what I wrote on one of the other threads: Three reasons: First three days is a pretty adequate cooling off time period. Second that is plenty of time to view video tapes, if the bus had cameras, or cell phone recordings that made it on to youtube.
It also gives the school and the police time to do a more formal investigation.
I noticed that the gunman was initially charged with a relatively minor offense. Once they get all the evidence they can bump this up. If they charge him with attempted murder right off the bat and that can't stick the DA is less likely to charge him with the lesser included and he walks on all counts and becomes a hero.
What do you say we all stop acting like liberals reacting emotionally. Sometimes whether we like it or not there are sound reasons for administrative actions.
So the hero in this story is on the equivalent of “administrative leave pending investigation”?
I can buy that as a good reason.
There’s probably some of the gunman’s friends that would seek some retribution for the “dissing” that the hero did to thier friend.
Reason has a serious problem overcoming dogma.......

You must be a government employee.
While those are good reasons, a suspension is a punishment and will go on the kid’s record. That is a reason to not suspend him. You do not punish good behavior you punish bad behavior.
1) None of us knows all the facts. There are three sides to every story. His side, the gunman's and the truth. Three days will let that come out.
2) If the evidence shows that he did nothing wrong the suspension will be lifted/erased from his record.
3) As I said Three days is a really good cooling off period. If friends or family is looking for retribution this will let the dust settle.
WOW you caught me. I am Technology teacher at a rural school in Virginia with a degree in administration. I am also the administrator for our after school program to prevent dropouts. I have been doing this for 16 years. Before that I worked in industry as a Machinist.
I started out as a Machine operator, went to school got, my degree and worked my way up to lead man, and then crew chief where I was in charge of all the training for my department. I got tired of the guys in management knowing less and getting paid more so I decided to switch careers. Is that okay with you?
