Jeb Bush reverses course: No path to citizenship necessary in immigration reform
Yahoo News ^ | 3/4/2013 | Liz Goodwin

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said in a TV interview Monday that he no longer supports a path to citizenship in an immigration reform bill, a reversal that puts him to the right of the current bipartisan immigration proposal forming in the Senate.

"If we want to create an immigration policy that's going to work, we can't continue to make illegal immigration an easier path than legal immigration," Bush said on NBC's "Today" show. "I think it's important that there's a natural friction between our immigrant heritage and the rule of law. This is the right place, I think, to be in that sense."

Bush, a Republican, supported immigration reform even when many in his party shifted to a harder line stance in the 2012 primary. As recently as last August, he said in interviews that he thought most of the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants should be put on a gradual path to citizenship if they meet certain conditions.

Here comes Hilary.

The GOP-e tried the RINO in 2008. Can't blame McCain for everything, Bush fatigue was a big factor, but he sure as heck did little to help himself other than picking Palin for his running mate.

In 2012, the GOP-E demanded the RINO again. And picked possibly the worst candidate to run against Obama. 2012 was the Republican's election to lose, and they managed to lose it.

Now you are back saying we have to back the RINO yet again? Pffft. The only thing that could win it for Jeb is Obama fatigue. And that is a pretty risky plan.

This is very good. He is making sense here:

I don't trust him as far as I could throw him. It's clear he is running rightwards on this issue to position for the 2016 primaries. If he were to win the White House, he would run right back leftwards again on this issue. He's held the position of a path to citizenship for way too long to believe otherwise.

Am I the only one who thought Jeb Bush had disappeared into a sinkhole?

Probably just the latter. If he gets in, his actual stance on illegal immigration won’t differ from his brother or Obama.

Well this means he will run for president. He is “throwing us a bone” with these remarks and if elected would go back to his previous position. Nice try Jeb.

“If we want to create an immigration policy that's going to work, we can't continue to make illegal immigration an easier path than legal immigration,” Bush said on NBC’s “Today” show.

It only took Bush 40 years to figure out the obvious? What's next? He's going to 'get' that only law biding people will give up their guns if gun control is passed? Or that if welfare pays MORE than work that more people will go on welfare?

Sorry, Bush is 'sweet' but he's waaaaaay too stupid to be up against the next dem thug - and a MSM that will be backing that dem thug...

I cant argue, his bro GWB was a huge disappointment to me, and even worse than that as time went on.

When GWB said the GOP election loss 2006 was a great opportunity to get amnesty(immigration reform) passed, it was nothing less than treason, and it tore HIS party apart..

I was a BUSH-bot in 2003 but by 2008 and esp 2009 I was labelled a BDSer here and I collected a whole BDS ping list, before it was cool. Some of those I met on my BDS ping are still friends here.

I knew these people were bad news the first time I heard the old man use the phrase “voodoo economics.”

They are all cut from the same socialist cloth.

To be more precise, the Bush royal family and their fellow Big Government Republicans spent over 20 years purging Reaganites out of the party.

You're right and they've also done a fairly good job of controlling the gate and only letting their kind appear on "enough" ballots.

Just heard Jeb on Hannity. What is it with these family dynasty wannabes, Kennedy envy?
